No big game hunting with dogs here. I have no clue why. If I see my neighbor (head game warden for my region) I will ask him why..

I wonder if the pgc even realizes the interest is there? lets get some people together and present a plan to the state. training season only, northern counties only? what are they gonna do...turn us down? big deal, at least we planted the idea.

pa- there is no training season for bear. here in ny, just training a hound is considered hunting, and there is no hunting bears with dogs, so there for no training on bears with dogs, small game and coyotes and bobcats only, no deer or bear

so there is a way that some one can run bears, that still means that there is no training season that just anyone can run dogs, thanks for the info, just didnt want people to get in big trouble with the DEC, looks like a lot of hoops to jump threw to run them though, and best watch this reg:

(iv) Only certified black bear tracking dogs may be used to track, trail, pursue or tree bears.

I believe your right Rem 700.
N.Y. Blues doesn't get out much does he? We have to have the same thing on our dogs too, rabies shot, and a collar with a license and ID on it. Hell all my dogs are "certified" Black Bear trackers.

bear hunting with dog's

I live in cameron county pa, It is beyond me why are game commision will not open a season on bear that you could use hound's. I think we should get petition started. This last bear season their was 68 bear killed in cameron . It was to cold this year and the bears was holed up. let's get a petition started and send it to the game commision.

Part of the reason we can't use hounds is that we kill enough bears with out other types of hunting, we kill more bears in pa than any other state in the east, maybe in the US. And we do it in three days, for comparison, i believe NY has 79 days of bear season and they've only cleared a thousand bears in the last year or two, maine has bait and hound hunting and they don't take nearly as many as pa.

IF IF IF

you could use dogs there would be less small bear taking and it would help the bear more and us hound hunters would injoy the rase more than the kill

If the Pa game commission would impose a size limit(as most every other state),the kill number would drop quite a bit. Here in Wv a bear must be 100 lbs and NOT be acompanyed by a cub.We all have seen the pics and post from Pa of sows and 2,3 4 cubs all killed. Why any one would want to shoot a 50 lb bear is beyond me.
That being said,I will say the management of Pa bears has worked and is working. However sooner or later the "cub killin" will bite them. The antis will get to them sooner than later.
Impose a size limit and open up a limited hound hunt. There is plenty of public land in Pa for this. Not to mention the extra revenue it would bring to Pa.Bearhunters from bordering states would jump at the chance to hound hunt "virgin" bear.

cameron county pa

where I live in pa is one of less populated counties in pa.I lived in this county most of my life and I'd have to say in the last 10 years are bear population rose dramaticly. that beeing said we have to many bear and that is causing a lot of different trouble's for the people of emporium that has deal with them in town and the bears getting in the garbage and the bears tearing into everythig. In one area of cameron county a couple of years ago the killed close to close to 20 bears in three hollow's. The hollow's are cook's run, john's, and britton run. I talked to guy's that said the 20 was low for a count. And there was alot more that that.

If you don't beleive what I'm saying call are game commision and get a bear kill report, or get on the wepsite. And you are right bearhunter we need the revenue, There is plenty of public land and state forest land plus seneca resoures is the second biggest land holder in cameron county.

rem700, I live here and see the bear numbers growing more and more every year. there's is nights that we been out coon hunting that we have seen more bear than deer. So far this year not even trying my walker dog treed 2 bears already. the reason pa kill's so many bear is because they are so many out there the number has to drop some.

last summer I got A call from A guy that bought the homestead hotel an old resturant out side emporium a mile or less. Any how he had problem's with coon's living in side the building so I went with my box trap's and set them went up the next day and went up A flight of stair's and checked my traps had a coon while careing the coon down I looked down and there was a big bear track in side the building, after we went up.

We need to release the bear hound's
