What's your "Hound Hauler"?

We have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma with a Diamond-tred Dog box, tool box, and storage box.

I was just curious as to what everyone else hauled their hounds around in?

Just bought a Chevrolet silverado 4x4 to hunt with, found out the hard way that with all this rain we're getting,a 2 wheel drive won't do.

Depends on where and what is being hauled, and neither of our hound haulers are on your list.

For pleasure hunting Dwayne has an Isuzu Hombre with a Heritage dog box - it's a small truck and thus the smaller box. You can squeeze two dogs in each side. With creative positioning we have managed to take as many as six adult dogs - or five adults and a litter of puppies, on long hauls. The truck has a small space behind the front seats - not a second seat but just an additional area with two little fold up "jump seats". The "rotten house hound" Sadie rides in this back cargo area with our 7 year old son. Then two dogs in each side of the box, and a dog or puppies in an x-large crate placed sideways between the box and the cab. It IS crowded though, especially on overnight trips where we have to find room for suitcase and cooler and stuff.

SO - the solution to that appeared in the form of a chrysler town and country van, which is my work vehicle (dwayne drives the truck) and also the main hound hauler to shows. The dogs ride in the luxury of air conditioning, and there's still plenty of cargo space. It came curiously outfitted with two eye bolts in the front bumper and one in the back. The salesman didn't know what they were for. Didn't take me very long to figure out what they were for - to hitch dogs to! Of course a van is not really the best for going to the woods, this is our vehicle for long haul shows, and for me to get to shows in when dwayne is working saturdays. If I go to a show and hunt I try to get a ride to the hunting spot with someone else and leave the van at the clubhouse. Dwayne uses the truck when he takes the dogs out on a pleasure hunt, or if he's taking dogs to the vet or something while I have the van.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my van, handles like a car, good on gas, and don't have to load that dog box, just open the door and pile the dogs in ;0). But our last long haul found we did have to get a little creative in arranging everything in there, especially on the trip back with big trophies and dog food and other prizes. But then we haven't started utilizing the luggage rack yet. Now what I want is a big 'ol RV!!!

85 ford

we drive a 85 ford f150 , me and my boys are praying for a dodge dakota 4 door 2000-2003 model. the old ford is good for around home hunts but the 351 windsor is hard on gas to go to the hunts out of town.

As a matter of fact - when I was creatively arranging everything for the trip back, piling trophies and jackets and dog food and other stuff in piles that defied gravity, dwayne rolled his eyes, smacked himself in the forehead and said "if we had a *&&^%&* 18 wheeler she'd fill it up!

Now you wanna talk FUNNY - shoulda seen me when I had my little nissan altima and I'd show up at a show with five dogs and two people in it - the men said it looked like one of those clown cars at the circus, they would stand there counting, mesmirized by the number of dogs I just KEPT pulling out of that car!

94 GMC Sierra

How ya been Christy.

Seems like just about any make and model makes a hound hauler. All depends on the persons preference and probably a little on income for some.

Heck, I used one of my girlfriends cars once,(when I was 19) unfortunately, they had to get sprayed by a skunk that night. Needless to say, I didn't get to use her car again.

95 YOYO (Toyota) 4x4, can't kill them, can't hardly get them stuck and if you do it doesn't take a bulldozer to get it out ( like some of the heavy fords and chevys). I also hunt on islands in the middle of the river in the fall and winter. Use a 20 foot welded aluminum boat w/ a dog box in it. Got a eye bolt where I chain my rig dog, and cruise the banks, when she strikes, I am guarenteed of turning the pups I'm training on a hot coon. Main drawback is all the snakes and gators (Florida)in the warm months. Went to check on my treestands (I deerhunt the islands also) the other day. Killed 2 moccasins and a 5 1/2 foot rattler in a little under an hour. Not to mention the approx. 30 gators I saw. Any one wanna come for a hunt??

had fords for years... im a believer in toyotas now.. not so comfortable to ride in but unreal tough... i really beat them up so i buy some trucks you might pay to have hauled away.. i keep them as long as they are reliable... i dont put on highway miles at all. ive put 300,000 on one ford. i think i replaced everything except the motor.. got a toyota with 250000. motor is a little tired though.. just got a new one only 165000 on it . im stylin now. seriously i cant see doing what i do with a new truck and its scratched and dented in one season.. ive got laughed at when i tried to trade one in.. i also never bought a dog box. build what i need.. haul dogs a lot with a snowmobile in the winter.. pete

Around the house we hunt out of a 81 Ford F-150 reg. cab 4X4 or a 85 Chevy 350 reg cab 4X4. When I head out to the hunts out of state I have a 03 Dodge Dakota club cab 4X4. All the trucks have Houndsmen Deluxe Dog boxes on them.
