What kind of tracking system do you use?

Just wondering what kind of system everyone uses. I'm shopping around for a system now, just wanted to hear from you folks, what systems are the best - and worth the money?

Garmin Astro. I sold my Tracker Classic. I like the Garmin much better. Very accurate, range is about the same. 1.5 miles.

I've had a Wildlife TRX3 for several years and I like it just fine. I've got a used Tracker Maxima on the way just because it's easier to carry on your belt.

Buckshot, what is the ICOM unit? I'm not familiar with that one.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've always used the Wildlife TRX3, and that's what I wanted to buy this time. But when I called around checking prices, not many places carry that unit anymore. One place told me that it was because that unit is big and bulky (which is true) and everyone was going with the smaller units because they are easier to carry in the woods.

tracker

we have a 2 dog tracker classic.... i highly reccomend the tracker maxima with marshall lit/tracking collars. you can see exactly were they are, prevents getting hit on a road, and also you can have many dogs on one system......good luck!

happy hunting and take care

The TRX 3 is the smallest of the Wildlife units. It's not real big at all but the Tracker and the Garmin are so much smaller and lighter.

We have a Wildlife TRX3 and an ATS Fieldmaster 16. I will guarantee you that you can pick up a dog with the ATS on when you cannot pick up a dog with the Wildlife. Plus the accuracy is way better as far as pinpointing. If the new smaller ATS will pick up as good as the older Fieldmaster 16 then that is what I would recomend. I've been hunting with 3 different people with the new Trackers and they had no idea where their dogs were once they got any distance from us in the hills that we hunt in.

Coondogs are born with tracking systems ... either you find them or they need to have the sense to find you ... if either is broken , it's cheaper to get a better dog than a shocking , tracking and lighted collar system.

Justin, you have a point. Its just that sometimes I need to go before they are ready.

I'm the boss and the brains when it comes to the team of myself and my dog ... he may not be ready when I am once , but he'll be ready if I have to tell him the next time .

Manners and such go alot further for a coondog than just what is on the surface ... it promotes work ethic and excellence far beyond jumping fences , coming to you , loading up , not pissing on bushes , not EVER walking in front of you ,etc...
