coon hunting contest!!!! come and see

I would like your guys/gals input on a friendly coon treeing contest I would like to start in the next couple months if I can get enough interest. I haven’t seen this done ever before on this site and thought it would be a great way to get people out there in the woods and bringing back picture for all the internet coon hunters to look at(lol).

Here how it will go. I will pick random teams of 3-5 people(depending on how many people are interested).
Name of the game: team who trees the most coon’s wins.
Rules!!!
1.dogs must have treed the coon, no shiners or trappers please!!!!
2.if you tree it and don’t shoot it out you must have a visible picture of it in the tree
if you shoot it out you must have the dog present in the picture along with the coon to be accepted
3. if the dog has more than one coon in the tree, you got lucky and every coon in the tree can be counted if there is a picture.
4. if there is a discrepancy with weather it is a coon in the picture or not we will have a vote.
5. you MUST MUST MUST have fun while your out there…
This is what I have so far. if you guys can think of any more rules that need to be in it let me know. I am doing this to hopefully get more people out running their hounds. If I get enough interest in this contest, I will start a list. On that list I will want your user name along with what state you’re from since populations differ so much from state to state.

Jeff Smith

most places kill season is out. so i would not be promting kill photos. live treed shots with a vote if needed is great.
also if you are putting togather the teams you should look at the states with quiet time closed spring seasons.......these hunters need to be teamed with all open training seasons to level the feild. i may be interested once i see the rules finalized with a start and end date.

Dan Morris
Ohio........all open on private ground

We use to have a honor hunt on CC many moons ago. Everyone agreed to send the winner a dollar. We counted every coon we treed even if there was more than one in a tree. We didn't require proof just trusted everyones honor. Ya I know trust another coonhunter??? We had three or four of them and then it just kinda faded away.

I think your gonna have a problem getting a decent picture of the coons. Most cameras can't reach that far in the dark.

No matter how the rules read, essentially, it would be an honor system. By that I mean, you can make a picture appear to be any way you want it to. You can type in any info you want to. You would have to be there to know for sure it is the way they say it is.

In the hunts you have judges, MOH's, and sometimes the facts still get twisted.

Not saying it is a bad idea, or not trying to discourage you from doing it, just saying it would be no more honest than the people involved. It could become very interesting.

Count me in!

I like the idea best about bi-monthly contests. And I like rule #5 too - just have fun! Not so much worried about having prizes, but it would liven up the message board!

Have you tried to take any with it yet? Mine has the 12x zoom also and I can't seem to get any decent shots of one when its WAY up there.

JUST ONE. WE WAS RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AND ONE RAN ACROSS THE ROAD IN FRONT OF US, AND IT WENT RIGHT UP A TREE. I FIGURED IT'D BE A GOOD TEST, SO QUINCY SHINED HIS LIGHT AND I TOOK THE PIC. BUT IT WASNT TO FAR UP MAYBE 30 FOOT. IT TURNED OUT REALLY WELL, IT ACTUALLY SURPRISED ME. NO WE WERE NOT HUNTING, AND NO WE DIDNT HAVE ANY DOGS. THIS WAS SUNDAY NIGHT ON OUR WAY HOME FROM THE GROCERY STORE.

I DID DO SOME TEST PICS OF STUFF FAR AWAY WITH QUINCY SHINING HIS LIGHT ON IT, AND THEY TURNED OUT GOOD.

I TOOK SOME PICS OF THE ECLIPSE THE OTHER NGIHT AND THEY TURNED OUT DECENT, A LITTLE FUZZY, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING REALLY FOR THE CAMERA TO FOCUS ON.

SURELY IT WOUDLNT MAKE THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE OF SOMETHING BEING ON THE GROUND VS IN A TREE WOUDL IT? DISTANCE IS DISTANCE REGARLESS OF WHETHER IT'S STRAIGHT FORWARD OR UP AND DOWN.

I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO JUST TRY A HIGH RISER AND SEE HOW IT WORKS!

WHAT ABOUT VIDEO? RECKON YOU COULD SEE IT BETTER ON THE VID THAN IN THE PIC SINCE THE VID DOSENT DO THE FOCUS THING?
