You have a 220 set in a culvert? You should get your trappers license pulled for that! It's careless people like you that give hunters and trappers a bad name.

When did this become a trapping website anyway? I thought this was UKC Coonhounds? Like as in owning and hunting hounds....not getting them killed by morons setting 220's in culverts where a dog and other pets are gonna get caught. Am I on the wrong site or something?

Congrats!!!! You are welcome. If you run hounds and are satisfied with the selectivity of your 220 set, I wouldn't worry.

To the nay sayers, to throw out a blanket statement without knowing the area the target animals and potential non target animals, no one should state using a 220 means your an idiot.

A 220 is a tool just like any other tool. Yes, it can be misused, but it can also be used responsibly. The fact that Trapper4life asked how he could safely set 330's in an area he hunts tells me he is a concerned and responsible trapper.

We need to watch out for blanket statements that put any sportsmen in a bad light. How would you feel if someone came on here and said all coon hunters poach?

Blanket statements do no one any service!

Congrats again Trapper4life, but becareful beaver trapping is nearly addictive as well coon hunting.

No this isnt a trapping site but what do you mean are you in the right place you dont know where you are or what?Like I said i run hounds to but I like to trap.Trapping is the foundation of this sport setting a 220 can be very effective there is several ways to avoid a dog I choose to use the box its easy to set up and more humane then a foot trap.I think we all need to work together as sportsmen,be it a hound hunter or a trapper we are both out doing the same thing but i choose to run a trap line in my opinion it is no differnt then running game with a dog or duck hunting goose hunting etc.I have noticed that some of you are pretty much just looking to degrade someone on this board even fellow houndsmen fighting other houndsmen its just flat out childish and unhealthy for the sport.

In most states having a 220 set on land is legal. You may not like it, but still legal. Trappers and hunters are all after the same thing and need to get along for the better of the sport. I do both and try not to set anything that would result in pet catch. Trappers have rights the same as hunters do.

Trapper4life I don't know if you have ever Skined one out (Beaver)
But really take your time at the Back Pelvic Plate "The skin actualy is Attached to the Bone" Also skin the Tail out well their is a market for Tail Skins and good one can bring $6-$8 but most of the time the labor outweighs the price.. But if you save them up and sell at one time you get good money for them.. Good luck

P.S. This is Virginia's Body Griping Laws..

It is unlawful to set above the ground any body gripping trap with a jaw spread in excess of 5 inches when using any bait, lure or scent. However, baited body gripping traps with a jaw spread between 5 and 6½ inches may be used within an enclosure with openings no greater than 60 square inches and the trap trigger recessed at least 12 inches from all openings (see diagram below). Traps must be staked to prevent enclosures from turning over and may only be used on private lands with written permission of the landowner

Thanks guys I owe it all to Larry Atherton,Had he not of told me about the dive sticks i would be still trying to out smart these guys the plan is to take 1 more and leave them be for the year I was doing some research said i should be able to get some in the same place next year if I dont take them all out the same year not that there is a shortage of beaver or anything im trapping a creek not far from the river so im sure there is plenty of beaver to be had but id like to leave enough in there to reproduce.Your right they are addicting and a little bit of a challange.

Let me go on record for saying that ALL conibars should be BANNED from anywhere but under water in all 50 states.

Now how bout we get back to talking about UKC registered hounds and hunting?
