I have been on cast where a hunter smelt like alcohol. I guess if you don't see the can or bottle it's hard to prove it. I would have to say the DUI would prove guilt. There is no place for alcohol during any hunting event, pleasure or competion.

Has he been to court yet????????????
If not then I don't think anything should be done.

Gotta give him the benefit of the doubt.

QUINCY AND I WERE GUIDING A CAST ONE NIGHT AND HE WAS THE JUDGE AS WELL.

THERE WERE THESE TWO "GOOD OLE BOYS" AND THEY HAD TOLD US THEY'D NEVER BEEN TO A HUNT BEFORE AND WERE JUST THERE TO HAVE SOME FUN AND TREE SOME COONS.

WELL ON THE 1ST TURN LOOSE ONE OF THEM HAD A BACK PACK ON AND IT HAD BEER IN IT. QUINCY WATCHED THEM CLOSE. NOTHING HAPPENED. HE WASNT GOING TO CAUSE A BIG FUSS UNLESS HE SAW THEM DRINK IT.

ON THE WAY TO THE 2ND DROP QUINCY CALLED THE MASTER OF HOUNDS AND TOLD HIM WHAT HE SAW AND SAID HE WAS GOING TO WATCH AND IF THEY PULLED IT OUT HE WAS GOING TO SCRATCH THEM. THE MOH SAID THAT WAS WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO.

LO & BEHOLD, THEY DID AND QUINCY TOLD THEM AND SHOWED THEM ON THE BACK OF THE SCORECARD, AND THEY GOT A LITTLE UPSET THAT IT WASNT MENTIONED IN THE LIST ALONG WITH THE OTHER RULES THAT WERE READ FOR THE "NEWCOMMERS". BUT THEY SAID THEY RESPECTED QUINCY FOR BEING NICE ABOUT IT AND NOT CAUSING A BIG RUCUSS OVER SOMETHING THEY CLEARLY DIDNT KNOW. THEY SAID NEXT HUNT THEY WENT TO THEY WOULD LEAVE IT AT HOME.

BUT THEY TOOK THEIR DOG AND BEER AND WENT ON HOME.

WELL, A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER ONE CAME UP TO QUINCY AND TOLD HIM THANKS FOR NOT CAUSING A BIG FUSS.

IF THEY'D KNOWN AND DONE IT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY, BUT THESE GUYS DIDNT KNOW.

Well I don't agree. I would have scratch them as soon as I found out they had booze in that pack and I would have wrote them up when I got back to the clubhouse.
In all my years of comp hunting, I have never seen or heard of anyone carrying booze on a cast or even having any at the club. But I live up north. I realize it is a different culture down south.

.....dang, Jim.......that's a heck of a generalization to make.....lolol......lived in Georgia for almost 30 years, but from Pennsylvania...saw alcohol at hunts up there, too.......I agree with you, the rules say no alcohol beverages, or drugs.......or GAMBLING (cards for money)....should be scratched and written up................I'm saying this, and I have a few friends that have done it................they take the chance..........they get caught......they should be scratched.........with that being said.........I rather hunt with an honest man who has had one drink or two...........than a sober cheat and scoundrel, or liar..............jmo...........

Yeah and it says NO GAMBLING, but you go to big hunts and see well known guys of the coonhunting world playin cards for some big money and it is ACCEPTED!! not tryin to justify alcohol by any means b/c it is against the rules and they should have been wrote up Jim, just wanted to know why Quincy didnt say anything when he knew they had alcohol in the first place.?.?

THERE WAS ONLY ONE CAN.

THE BACKPACK THAT THE GUY HAD ALSO HAD HIS TRACKER, AND BOTTLED WATER AND OTHER HUNTING STUFF IN IT.

QUINCY TOOK IT THAT MAYBE HE DIDNT THINK ABOUT TAKING IT OUT BEFORE HE LEFT HOME.

LIKE I KNOW JUST ABOUT ANYONE THAT HUNTS THE COMPETITION HAS DONE THIS ONCE, SAY YOU'VE SPENT A LONG DAY TURKEY HUNTING OR MAYBE YOU WENT COON HUNTING LAST NIGHT DURING KILL SEASON AND PRIMED THE DOG YOUR HUNTING UP AND FORGOT YOUR GUN IN THE TOP OF THE DOG BOX AND YOU DIDNT REALIZE IT UNTIL YOU OPEN THE TOP OF THE BOX TO COLLAR YOUR HOUND BEFORE YOU GO THE THE FIRST TURN LOOSE.

SHOULD YOU HAVE BEEN SCRATCHED FOR A SIMPLE MISTAKE THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN YOU MADE?

I am just glad I don't live up North with arrogant AH's as yourself. The comment about the South was wrong and it wouldn't do Sir for me and you to ever draw out on a cast. There would be complications I am sure. You seem to know everything and I know what UKC says about alcohol being prohitied on their grounds and then it says drinking and stirring up trouble for cause to scratched so go figure. I am not saying drinking on a cast is right but the comment you made upset me a bit.

I dont understand UKC's rule of no gambling or card playing at all exactly what is a nite hunt?? Paying money to play a game, where sometimes cheating is envolved for someone to win, it is all agamble. What is the difference?? Heck I fully support a lil card playing, might win back the gas money it cost me to get to the hunt. JMO

.................well, y'all were right...........things I have learned on this thread, that I didn't know.....................#1)cell phones can be used at any time during a hunt, as long as actual scores are not discussed.......2)dogs can be scratched for off game........even AFTER the hunt time is over, under the authority of the judge (6k)..........#3) dogs WILL NOT be scratched for off game, after the judge arrives at the tree.........tree is considered closed, .........as per above.........you apparently don't like UKC, Jeremiah.......have fun in your PKC hunts.............have a good day........

It's not that I dont like UKC I just think that some of their rules are a bit far fetched, I dont have any problems abiding by them but some of them are a little much in my opinion. But I guess that is all a part of it.

I don't have anything against drinking, I drink a beer every once in a while, too, but if you can't even go hunting without it, you have got a bigger problem than UKC can handle.Even on a pleasure hunt, if someone cracks open a cold one, they can sit at the truck or take it on to the house for all I care.I have too much time, effort and money tied up in my dog to have a drunk fooling around him and I enjoy hunting too much to spend half the night babysitting a drunk.Personally, I don't know anyone that drinks one beer and calls it quits there.

But then again, I AM in the south......
