English the official language. Cool. I speak English.

But, let's not stop there!

(1) Denim as the national fabric. I like wearing blue jeans.

(2) Leather hunting boots as the national shoe. When not at work, you'll often see me in them.

(3) National Shirt. A Steelers sweatshirt of course. A Steelers t-shirt would be acceptable if the weather is too hot for the standard sweatshirt.

Don't tell me that it's not all about me, and others like me. After all, you were proposing that it's all about you, and others like you (language wise).

Maybe we should all accept that we are a multi-cultural society and accept the differences of those different than us (in one way or another). Wait, that seems too liberal and fair-minded. Forget that!!!

Put your jeans on, put you leather boots on, put that Steelers sweatshirt on. We need uniformity. What better uniformity is there than what I, and others like me believe.

I've got to admit : the language idea might not fly in Miami, the denim idea might not fly in corporate America, the hunting boots idea might not fly in the cities, the Steelers shirt idea might not fly outside the Pittsburgh region. But, so what. They must follow the standards.

Just kidding!

I'm sure some understand the satirical point. I'm equally sure that some don't. That's just how it is in a multi-cultural society!!!

Wearing jeans or a steelers shirt is an outside/exterior issue, it does not affect others around you negatively....

Speaking espanol in an english speaking nation causes confusion, and when it is a little kid in my sons 4th grade class it causes him to gain extra attention....which in turn denies every other child to lose out on time from their education. (By the way, unlike the hypothetical explanation you gave mine is reality, hypothetical does not cut it in the real world. Hypothetically my dog is a World Champion, reality is that Quick is the world champion and mine did not make it past the RQE level....)

I'm sorry but I don't see the comparison......

Lastly....Go Steelers, at least you picked a good team....

Folks again it boils down to being informed of what those elected to represnt you in Washington.............

are they really doing what is in your best interest or what is in "their" best interest........meaning keeping their base happy ???

Be informed, be smart, be educated on what is going on at the National level, State level and your local level !!!!!!!!!!!

If those elected don't meet your standards, don't meet the standards and expectations you would have of a friend then you have only one option....................

All I have to say is Thank God. Thank God that when the crazy white man, along with his crazy ideas came to this GREAT country, the only true Americans didnt force them to learn thier native language.
It wasnt that long ago that every ENGISH speaking person in this great country was here somewhat illegally. Now dont get me wrong I dont promote illegal anything, but if a spanish speaking person is an American. Then what makes you or me or anyone else for that matter, any better than that person.
The true Americans were robbed of thier language, thier land, thier homes, thier families, and most of all thier lives. I know this is a big deal to alot of people, but to me this great country has bigger problems that needs to be delt with. These are my views and my views only. I dont care if anyone else likes them or not.

On a side note, if your affraid of a Mexican takeing your job. Then get off the couch and get to work yourself. Mexicans are not takeing the jobs of Americans. They are takeing the jobs that we dont really want to do. This country was not founded by a bunch of lazy, I wish I had a job, kind of men and women.

Worldbeater.............my wife is American Indian and she reminds me every day how the white man took her forefathers land, and how they are getting even with us now with the casino's they are building

the differance then compared to now is this country was just a wilderness and the men & women from England, and Europe came here to escape religous ridicule and seek freedoms.........

now I know my family came here speaking on German.......many still do today when family is around, but everyone of them learned to speak english so they could get jobs, and most of all......become an American Citizen, something that most immigrants sought and were proud to become

yes they knew they would have to pay taxes and work hard but that was a small price to pay for freedom............now they can come to this country, open stores, pay NO TAXES and even now get benifits that tax paying AMericans are paying for

Nope.......I don't think it is a good thing, I respect your right to your opinion, hope you respect mine

when elected officals worry more about Illegal Immigrants than they do the citzens of this country.............its time for them to be voted OUT OF OFFICE !!!!!!

Honalieh,

I grew up in Western PA and have devoted my life to serving this great country of ours. You know most of Western PA is full of all kinds of people. Italians, Serbians, Polls, Slovaks ext. Most folks there are second or third generation American and have very close ties to thier roots. IE Serbian clubs, Italian American clubs some of the best deli's in the world ect. However, when those folks came here they did not want to change America they wanted to be part of it. The did not illigally come to this country they worked hard, paid thier taxes, learned to speak English, fought and died for this country. Yes, they are proud of their heritage as we all should be, however they did not buck the system they asemilated into it. I think that is the problem most people here have with todays illegal imagrents. They do not pay taxes, they do not bother to learn the language they are a strain on our medical and governmental systems.

All of us are imigrants to this great country. Even the American Indians migrated acrost the great Ice bridge from Asia. I think as Americans we are loving and giving people. But we feel that you should follow the paths set by those who came before. Become part of this great society and add to it. Do not come here steal from it and not contribute back or play by the rules.
