best way is to catch a coon in a box trap and a easy way is to put out a coon feeder and set your trap next to feeder and catch one fast tease the dog with it after a few time with in a few days and a few coon then if the dog is interested in the cage coon then go to the next step and turn the coon loose so dog can see it go then turn the dog loose and see what he does the after a few times then go by your feeder and turn him loose and see if he can pick up a track and see what he does now this is a fast way but this is also over a 3 to 4 month time also you can get vicki lambs book and it will help you also and you can find it in the american cooner mag have fun with your dog

This is pretty good advice but take this advice as well.

Don't be in a hurry to succeed!!! Way too many people out there think that after a few months a pup should be ready for it's GRNITECH title and it just does not work that way!!!!
This dog will only know what you teach it so be ready to learn together as you go, and don't look for the instant gradification, instead look for the fun you will have over the years hunting this dog. Don't give up on it too soon.

I agree w/ K-9. There is no "quick and easy" way to train a coondog, if there was everyone would have a grandnite. Enjoy it and remember it might be hard to find that once in a lifetime hound if you only have one hound in a lifetime!

I agree with these guys but you also need to know what not to do.A couple big no's are;don't let you're pup get torn up by a coon, don't hunt it with a mean dog and be carefull of correcting you're dog .good luck.

go to the video store and rent or buy the movie "WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS" and watch it as many times as you can and apply what you see and learn...dont chop any trees down unless you ask the landowner ..lol. it's a good movie ,i watched it about 12 times .i bought the vcr tape when it came out + saw it at the drive-in when it first came out.you can get it on dvd now also.

hunting that dog with a nother isn't a bad idea. but try not to hunt with a trashy or rough dog. this could send a good dog down the wrong path.
