CH GRNITECH 'PR' Michigan Swamp Rooster - Stud Dog Thursday

When looking at a list of stud dogs in our system that have sired the most pups, you will find that it is primarily dominated by Treeing Walkers. There is one non-Walker dog, however, that managed to crack the top ten and bred his way all the way to the 4th spot in overall puppy numbers. That hound is, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Michigan Swamp Rooster, an English hound born back in the early 90s.

Rooster’s reproduction record is an outlier in any breed outside of Walkers just by sheer numbers. Within his breed, his 3,172 pups tower over the next closest hound by 1,589 pups. Rooster’s first litter hit the ground in February of 1993, which was the first of 14 litters he threw that first year. The last litter he sired was born in May of 2003. Rooster averaged over 25 puppies being whelped per month during that 10-year stretch between his first and last litters registered with UKC.

A recurring theme of these stud dog ads is, there are just too many good dogs out of these hounds to give them the credit they are due. I am going to focus more on litters and crosses that were exceptionally successful, focusing on the number of titled dogs born from a certain cross.

The first litter that jumped out at me was early on, in August of 1993 out of a female named Frey’s Miss Dangerous. Dangerous drooped 6 pups in that litter, 3 of which were finished to a hunting title, NITECH ‘PR’ Tree Talking Rusty, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Krider’s Brach Blasten Billy, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Wright’s Lay’em Up Tree Queen.

In March of 1995, a large litter of 12 pups out of Rooster and NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Cridlin’s Red Jill hit the ground. Of the 12 pups, 5 titled with 3 earning their GRNITECH title. These pups include, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Cridlin’s Red Swamp Ratt, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Mountain Pride Honkey, CH ‘PR’ Cridlin’s Red Swamp Rusty, GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mosier’s Swamp Tracker Misty, and GRCH ‘PR’ Memorymaker Mystic Melody.

Later that year in May, Rooster had two 11 pup litters that each had 4 dogs titling out. The first litter was out of GRNITECH ‘PR’ Cox’ Little Sue who with Rooster threw, NITECH ‘PR’ Crager’s Maplewood Sue, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Smith’s Backroads Rosie, GRNITECH ‘PR’ County Line Clyde, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Cox’ Clint. Just a mere 15 days later a litter out of Rooster X GRNITECH ‘PR’ Lay’em Up Good Tymes was born. The four titled dogs from that cross were GRNITECH ‘PR’ Trip My Trigger, NITECH ‘PR’ Bowling’s KY Twister, NITECH ‘PR’ Black’s Swamp Turbo, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mink’s Sawdust Swamp Barney.

The thing that stood out to me was the size of the litters Rooster threw. There were very few small litters out of him, especially from the early to middle portions of his breeding career. Like the 10-pup litter born in July of 1998 out of ‘PR’ Hardtime Dixie. Half of the dogs in that litter titled out, dogs like NITECH CH ‘PR’ Sciota Swamp Hen, WCH NITECH ‘PR’ O’Quinn’s Flow, NITECH ‘PR’ Jackson’s Hardtime Bell, NITECH ‘PR’ Ice Man, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Wildwood King. Or the 8-pup litter out of ‘PR’ Yarbrough’s Red Bull that had GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Tenn. Swamp Buster, NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Cofield’s Freckles, and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Mosier’s Swamp Tracker Dixie.

In January of 1999 a litter between Rooster and GRNITECH Northridge Willy’s Jojo produced 7 pups, 4 of which titled, including GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Northridge Jojo’s Feebie, CH ‘PR’ Northridge Jojo’s Solid Slade, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Hubbard’s Bear Creek Turbo, and NITECH CH ‘PR’ Oakhill’s Blue Missouri Husker. Just a few months later another litter where 4 of 7 pups titled hit the ground out of Rooster and NITECH ‘PR’ Boggy Creek Sandy. Those hounds were GRNITECH ‘PR’ Boggy Creek Jake, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Mark’s Oklahoma Floyd, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Boggy Creek Babe, and NITECH ‘PR’ Double J Baby Jazz.

Rooster’s Pedigree:

------- GRNITECH Neuse River Dooley II
--- GRNITECH CH Neuse River Rambo
------- NITECH ‘PR’ Kirby’s Red Pepper
CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Michigan Swamp Rooster
------- GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Wilcox’ Thunder Bingo
--- GRNITECH ‘PR’ Raffle’s Billie Jo
------- GRNITECH Tenbrooks Blue Queen

Rooster’s Reproduction Record:

Number of Pups: 3,172
GRNITECHs: 88
NITECHs: 127
GRCHs: 68
CHs: 110
GRFCHs: 4
FCHs: 2
GRWCHs: 5
WCHs: 3

I remember all the adds. The owners thought alot of him.Never had the pleasure of hunting with a good one out of him.A local man had pups out of him.He thought alot of them.ha had them priced high.I didn't hear of one doing much but that don't mean one didnt. The man that had them was more of a coohound owner than a coonhunter. They were beautiful pups.Large litter. The female determines the size of a litter but the Rooster was fertle.ha

How about featuring Setum Up Ace? I'll guess that Ace produced more champions /grand champions than any dog other than the top Walkers and the Rooster dog. Jr.Steelman
