Dog's Bark Gone?!?!?!

i have a walker that is a good coonhound...everyone comments on this dog's bark because it sounds like a foghorn when he opens his mouth....

but he dont likebig equipment (tractors, bush hogs, ect) and i try to keep him calm when anything is goin on cause once his voice got kinda hoarse when he barked at them so hard....

well, one day i wasnt here and there was some road work or something going on and he barked and barked until he was very hoarse, problem is, it's been about 6 months now and his voice never came back...

i hunted him once since then and after about 20 yards into the woods i couldnt hear him anymore, had to use the tracking system...

i was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what did ya do? is there a cure? how do you hunt a dog like this if you hunt them at all?

barking

I have a 2 year old walker that lost his when he was about 12 months old, didnt think he was going to get his back, took about 2 months before he was back to normal, i put lemon juice in his water and tried diffrent stuff ,i dont think any of it helped, guess it just healed with time, but with yours ,6 months is quite a while ,it dont sound good anyway but, i still wish ya the best of luck!

...

i dont competition hunt, "yet", but i got a pup that i think might make a good coondog...so i'm hoping my old dog can train the pup, problem is, hunting the old dog is tough when ya cant hear him...
tracking systems are good, but i got in the situation last hunt i went out with him and he went into a deep river bottom and i was on top and in the bottom but the sides was rock and the tracker couldnt even pick up the collar, and if it did it came from different directions...
tough to hunt when u cant hear ur dog for sure....wish i could cure him...he had a beautiful voice......then, i got another dog that wont hardly shut up barking and she NEVER has a voice problem.....seems like u always have problems with ur best dogs...

We just kept our in the garage in a kennel for a few weeks making sure she didn't bark,at all if possible. She is back to normal now. If not a little better.
She gave her some cough syrup on occassion also. Not sure if it did anything but she did recover.
Wish you luck

I have a male right now that barked himself out once I kenneled him as a pup...he's 7 now and his voice has gotten worse ever since that happened. Now you cant hardly hear him at all past 25 yards or so. He's a house dog now, and I hunt him maybe 2 or 3 times a year

doxacyclin

Doxacyclin, not sure if it spelled right. Get it from your Vet. The last I bought was 18 bucks give 2 a day until it comes back.
Bark Collar also recommended

I had a dog in the 80's that lost,

his voice & my Vet gave him 2 shots of STEROIDS about 2 weeks apart. He got his voice back, & my Vet said that the STEROID shots would repair & strenghten the muscles around his vocal cords & voice box. Whether that did it or not I don't know, all I do know is that he got better.

I have a few friends that hog hunt and they like dogs that run silent on track. if you are not to fond of the dogs see if a hog hunter will take him from you. if not take him to a vet
