How did you know your dog has it and do you notice any difference in there hunting or treeing after being diagnosed.

only had one she was a pretty exceptional hound. first thing I noticed was she missed several trees then about a month later she left several trees. then her hair git a good bit thin and she was gaining weight the vet put her on meds that seemed to reverse the trend.
after about 6 months attempted to breed her . Nothing. things going along pretty good for a while.. after 3 missed breedings the level of thyroid was again low.

dosage changed again
same results but repeated the circle Good for a while then back to the problems

To really know for sure you will need a full blood panel done to see what a few different levels are. Often times a dog will test for a low T4 and they are put on thyroid meds. Many factors can contribute to why it has a low T4.

Some symptoms include suscptability to cold; small testicles in males; bugged out eyes; thin coat/hair loss & pimples along spine; easy weight gain. Dogs don't necessarily have all these symptoms. Mine with thyroid issues didn't develop any symptoms until he was around 4, although his testicles were always on the small side. I never treated him with meds. He lived to 11. Toward the end, his back was almost bald and covered with zits. He was never particularly fast, but he was a solid country coondog. It didn't affect his hunting that I could tell.
