Thermal popularity?

Has the thermal hype slowed down.Do they work good at finding a coon.?Any of you regret getting one.Dont hear much about them anymore.

Thermals are nice but me personally I do not own one. Reason being I don't want to spend all that money for a thermal when I can still spot 90 percent of the coons I tree.

I'm with you priceycreekkenn---

Don't own one and don't need one. I was taught and learnt how to fine a raccoon when the hides were $60-$80 back in the 50's and 60's. Didn't have one then but always had a good Christmas from fur sales.

Not sure why you would pay that kind of money to find a 50 cent raccoon today??

Id like to see a thermal in action. This has been tough hunting this summer and fall .There was so much rain the woods are thicker than ive ever seen. The heat wont let up and you Cant hardly walk in the woods or shine a tree for the green growth.I hunt hills and Ive had to walk away from alot of trees that i simply couldnt shine for the small stuff.Thats aggravating. If i didnt have pups to train id wait until its better.I guess if you cant shine a tree you cant use a thermal anyway.

My hunting buddy and I each have one. We find plenty coons that we never can see. I don't think most of you hunt in the jungles we hunt in.

I would definitely say thermals are definitely a game changer for hunting. Like anything the right tools for the job will make it a lot easier, productive, and efficient. In some instances when I would think my dog may have missed or didn’t have it without a thermal, I ended up being wrong when I got one. It definitely speeds up the time at a tree spotting. But most hunter’s have different styles of hunting and different ideas on things. No matter what it is I aways say the right tools for the job makes it better. All the older men I hunt with always ask me when we go out pleasure hunting, Did you bring that thermal so we can find them? Lol. One of the hardest things with anything new is understanding it and knowing how to operate it. It took me a while the learning how to adjust it and use it for my needs. I use to be one of them that said I would never spend over a thousand dollars on hunting equipment. Now I don’t think I could hunt efficiently without it.

It took me a while to get the settings right. For a month I was dissatisfied with it until I got it right.

A thermal is kinda like your garmin. if you ever get one and get used to using it, you don`t wanna go with out it. i remember the days long before tracking collars and i hunted a lot. now i won`t turn loose without my tracking collar. so the best i can say is , these things will spoil you.i like my 19 thermal but they are NOT 100% on finding the coon.

Thermal

They are sure not perfect but at 76 and diminishing vision I use one all the time. If they don't look at me I just don't find them without the thermal. Dr said with my vision I would not be able to see the difference in shades of color and he's right.

It's a tool to help find a coon hopefully in a shorter time, what I say if it can help you plus a coon it should help minus some trees also.If people hunt dogs that tree real live raccoons they don't need a thermal! Another tool that is very helpful garmins, most people watch them like they are playing a video game. They couldn't tell what their dog is doing.Useful to help find your dog and if it crossed a river, road.

I would recommend nothing below the AGM Taipan V2 15-384. Best place that helped me decided on mine was Conkey’s hunting supply. Give them a call they are really helpful.

Not sure why you would pay that kind of money to find a 50 cent raccoon today??

Were they $60 to $80 in July ?
