CH GRNITECH 'PR' Dark Hollow Hobo's Hoss - Stud Dog Thursday
For this week’s column, let’s head back to the magical time of the early 90s. The Black and Tan had a lot of very impactful hounds born during this time frame, from Setum Up Ace who we highlighted a couple months back, to Two Time Albert, Indian Outlaw, Typhon, Northern Buck II, and the topic of this week’s article, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Hobo’s Hoss. Hoss has been a staple of Black and Tan Hound’s pedigrees ever since the early 90s. He has sired the 4th most pups in the breed’s history and currently has the 7th most titled hounds as well. Let’s see what he reproduced.
Hoss’s first litter hit the ground 4 days after he turned 4 years old. That makes him an outlier in the studs we’ve highlighted in the past, as most had their first litters much earlier in life. His first litter was out of ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Bell and was born in July of 1994. That would be one of 4 litters he had in 1994 but as time progressed into the mid-90s, those numbers jumped quickly. His first titled hounds were born from a litter in April of 1995 out of ‘PR’ Ryan’s Black Gal. This was a 3-pup litter but 2 of them titled out, NITECH ‘PR’ Hills TN Black Hoss and NITECH ‘PR’ Jones’ Miss Sealey.
One of Hoss’s most impactful litters was born in August of 1996 out of ‘PR’ Jud’s Ears. Out of the 8 pups in this litter, 5 titled out including GRNITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Tige, NITECH ‘PR’ Coal Country Mountain Dew, NITECH ‘PR’ Haywood Creek’s Liza Jane, NITECH ‘PR’ Thigpen’s RiverCity Molly, and CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Drum. In April of 1999 two more litters with well known offspring were born. The first was out of GRNITECH ‘PR’ Flippo’s Driving Miss Ruby and produced 5 pups with 3 of them titling. Those 3 were NITECH CH ‘PR’ Highlands Dixieland Delight, NITECH ‘PR’ P & S Dark Hollow Joker, and NITECH ‘PR’ Smith’s Black Dillion. Then GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bauer’s Kansas Jewell dropped a 7-pup litter with 4 of them titling, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bauer’s Kansas Gem, NITECH CH ‘PR’ Beaver Creek Hoss, CH ‘PR’ Fletch’s Blk Smokin Hank, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bauer’s Kansas Junior.
The new millennium brought more pups out of the 10-year-old Hoss. A litter born in March of 2000 out of ‘PR’ Setum Up Ace’s Whitney had 3 of the 7 pups title out including CH ‘PR’ Mason’s Smokin Gunner, NITECH ‘PR’ Carey’s Black Sadie, and NITECH ‘PR’ Johnson’s Set Down Susie. Then in a litter born in July of 2000 out of ‘PR’ Cedarview Sis, 3 of the 9 pups titled out including NITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Khan, NITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow High Hope, and NITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Babe. At 12-years-old, Hoss sired the last litter I will mention on here. It was a repeat cross with GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bauer’s Kansas Jewell. This time she had 11 pups and 3 of them titled. Those 3 were CH ‘PR’ Allen’s Keno, NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Circle M Dark Hollow Jay, and NITECH ‘PR’ Big Creek Ragin’ Bull.
Hoss has had a few litters born after his passing in the late 2000s and even into the 2010s. His offspring has continued to thrive, and you still see his name on a lot of pedigrees today. Let’s take a look at his pedigree and reproduction numbers.
