With me packing up to head to Brazil, Indiana for Plott Days in the morning, it only makes sense that this week’s stud comes from the Plott breed. This is a breed where overall pup numbers and percentages can get skewed quickly due to the popularity of the breed being used on big game across the United States. But when looking through reproduction records, it was easy to choose WLDNITECH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Kansas Sizzlin Heat as the featured hound. Not only does Heat have the most hunt titles produced by any stud within the breed, but he also has the distinction of being the breed’s lone UKC World Nite Hunt Champion; a title that he earned in 1988 in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

Heat was born in May of 1983 and was another hound that made his mark in the woods before he ever was noticed as a top reproducer. As a matter of fact, prior to Heat winning the World Championship, he had only sired 2 litters with a total of 8 pups. As often happens when a dog wins the World Hunt, they become high in demand. As a matter of fact, before the next World Hunt rolled around, Heat sired 31 additional litters. That’s called getting busy.

One of the more interesting things about Heat’s reproduction records is the fact that he sired 19 NITECHs but no GRNITECHs. I would say that is unique among top stud dogs, even in the early 80s. And although he got a late start in the stud pen, he more than made up for it producing 98 of his exactly 100 litters from November 1988 to December 1993.

One of the first litters that established Heat as not only a top hunting dog, but as good reproducer as well, was born in April of 1989 out of Heat and CH ‘PR’ Oak Tree’s Sadie. Of the 6 pups in the litter, 4 titled including, NITECH ‘PR’ Locust Creek Dixie, NITECH ‘PR’ Pioneer Treeing Gold, NITECH ‘PR’ Lost Lake Heat, and GRCH ‘PR’ Osage Riv Hot Shot Doc. Later that year in December, a litter out of Heat and ‘PR’ Singing Savana produced 6 more pups with a couple of titled dogs in that litter. Those dogs were NITECH CH ‘PR’ Terra’s Dog Justice and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Sonja’s Suthrn Lace.

Heat continued producing healthy sized litters until he was 10-years old when his last few litters hit the ground. It was in April of 1993, 1 month shy of his 10th birthday that his last two titled pups hit the ground out of 2 separate litters. First was CH NITECH ‘PR’ The Son of Heat out of Heat and CH ‘PR’ Tillatoba’s Midnight and just 9 days later, his final titled pup, NITECH ‘PR’ Rancho Ruff was born out of Heat and NITECH ‘PR’ Superior Plott Brandy.

I could of swore that the Lost Lake Heat dog was Grntch. Was this dog from Wisconsin? Owned by Red Lutcherland?
