This week’s article goes back to the Plott breed with the highest title percentage sire, that I’ve seen of any Plott hounds with over 100 pups on the ground. That hound is GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Blower’s Redwood Okie. Okie came with the new millennium, born in a litter of 4 male hounds in June of 2000. And although he was the only one to achieve titles in the woods, or to produce any UKC registered pups, it would be a cross that left its mark on the Plott breed.

Okie is going to be a little bit of an outlier compared to the other hounds I have highlighted to this point in that he only sired 23 litters with 127 pups. That puts him way down the list in number of puppies produced within the breed. But his 18 hunt titled pups put him 2nd only to Sizzlin Heat who we looked into just a couple months back. And the percentage of titled pups being at 14.17 percent put him among the top performers, percentage wise, that we have covered. Let’s talk dogs.

Okie’s first litter hit the ground in February of 2003 and started his successful breeding run. It was a cross with CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Blower’s Redwood Josie and produced 8 puppies with 4 of them titling out. Those 4 were CH ‘PR’ Koons Redwood Josie Again, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Divided Acres Rockin’ Rita, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Knight’s Redwood Treeing Ace, and NITECH ‘PR’ Redwood O.J. 1 month later in March of 2003, Okie’s 2nd litter produced his first GRNITECH, with GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Kyles Brindle Redwood Rock out of Okie and CH ‘PR’ Koons Redwood Nikki At Nite.

A year later in April of 2004 another successful litter hit the ground out of a familiar cross. Okie was again bred to CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Blower’s Redwood Josie and this time produced 7 pups with 5 of them titling out. Those 5 were FCH NITECH WCH ‘PR’ Josie’s Sweet Melody, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bearswamp’s Brindle Spider, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Hager’s Mingo-Redwood Solid Oak HTX, NITECH ‘PR’ Redwood Smokin Oakie, and NITECH ‘PR’ Hager’s Mingo-Redwood Jacob. This cross would be made 2 more times for a total of 4 litters with 29 pups being born and 11 being titled. The 2 we haven’t mentioned were CH ‘PR’ Okie’s Redwood Splitter and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Workman’s Redwood Super Stripe.

In November of 2004 another top litter hit the ground out of Okie this time out of GRCH ‘PR’ Cavey’s Redwood Torro. This litter produced 7 puppies with 4 titling out, including GRCH ‘PR’ Cavey’s Redwood Toller, CH ‘PR’ Emkes Prime Time Wendy, GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Angel Ridge Redwood Dixie, and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Redwood’s Drive Em Crazy Dixie. Okie’s 5th GRNITECH came in a litter in March of 2006 out of GRCH ‘PR’ Buckeye Valley Daybreaks Fancy and was called GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Kyle’s Brindle Redwood Dixie. Then 5 months later in August of 2006 he produced his 6th and final GRNITECH out of a cross with CH ‘PR’ Angel Ridge Brindle Sugar. That dog was called GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Caveys Redwood Okies Repeat.

Okie continued producing quality hounds into the late 2000s until he had his final litter in September of 2009 at the ripe age of 9-years-old. When it’s all said and done, it may seem like he was underutilized as a stud dog in his life. You know what they say, quality over quantity. Let’s take a look at his lineage and reproducing numbers.
