Are you Giddy Yet??

Oaks just barley gone, zones and world hunt coming up..Someone will fulfill a lifetime dream of Owning a world champion or will a previous winner step back into the spotlight..Its a life changing event for alot of folks..Soon after the dust settles the nights will be getting crisp, farmers will be harvesting the corn, the coon will be moving and for most you get a extra step in your giddy up..Bragging rights with your buddies or a few love the challenge of one on one with a young Hound tuning him into a fine coonhound..We are truly blessed to be able to cast hounds into the darkness to fulfill a need that only a few understand..Hope everyone will have a great season and and a safe one for you and your hounds!

John Dalton

I get giddy every fall as coon season starts, but I am starting to realize these mountains are getting steeper every year. They seem to be straight up these days. Places I hunted with ease only a few years ago seem to be to rough to hunt any more. Old age and declining health takes the get up and go right out of us old coon hunters. Still I look forward to those crisp October and November nights even if my pace has slowed down my heart still craves the hunt. May try and hunt some flat land spots this year while I can still get around, as these mountains are just getting to be to much work. Happy hunting. Dave

Mr.Dave tried the mountains a few times years ago and could not find enjoyment in any of it..We have rolling ground here in southside va.but it is still nice to get invited to Ohio and Illinois every once in awhile to tree a coon especially when them beans and corn get cut

Are you giddy yet?

I was getting that way, then we got a visit from Hurricane Ida. I went and checked out the woods today. Huge trees down everywhere. Getting around is gonna be tough. Maybe as bad as the mountains. LOL My biggest concern is leaning trees. They're everywhere and my two females are both climbers.

That storm sure hit yall bad..I checked with a friend we hunt with in Mississippi today when we go down for winter classic and asked him the same thing..He said they got a bunch of rain but everything else was alright..We have trees down from the ice storm last year that has made some of ours terrible..They have clearcut a bunch of pine here that was devastated ..Chipped most all of it as it got twisted up so bad.

Donald, I really feel your pain, that's was a terrible thing to happen. Ida destroyed woods that took many years to grow and will take many more years to overcome that storm. I sure hope you can find some suitable hunting ground this season. Take care. Dave

I haven't seen the woods this bad since Hurricane Betsy in 1965. I was 22 then and managed. I'm 78 now, gonna be a little different.

I know I’m giddy. Just kicked Covid. Weather is improving. Had a beautiful night Monday night. Upper 50’s. I was out, but I couldn’t enjoy it bc the slightest bit of exercise just wore me down. The China flu took my taste, my smell, and 13 pounds. So either the snakes are gonna need to go, or I’m gonna need my sniffer back, haha. Enough about that jive, I’m just excited for the cool nights and good chases that come with them.

Hope you do get better from Covid..I play a bunch of Senior softball all over the country and it has hit in all four corners of the country and unfortunately we have lost some friends and competitors.

Sorry to hear about everyone's rough spell, I hope you all have brighter days in the near future. As far as giddy goes I don't'n think I get giddy, although I did buy a new light, boots, leash, collar, hunting coat. Also got a new dog and a new three month old pup, which by the way is a new breed for me, X breed (English/Walker). Let's say I'm filled with anticipation

Mrains, we all know the feeling, just something about these cold crisp Fall nights and tree dogs that makes us feel so good. Happy hunting. Dave
