Air Force Vet here. Haven't owned a coonhound in about 15 years. Moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Texas and looking to get back into it. I am originally from SW Virginia, and thats where all of my experience running dogs comes from.

I've heard and read that its hard to bring a dog from the mountains down to the swamp and have them do well. Seems everything I hear is that they struggle quite a bit. What are everyone's opinions on that?

That brings me to my next question. Is there anyone on here from the North Florida/South Georgia area? Been looking quite a while for a decent dog, watching the classifieds, etc. It doesn't seem that there are as many coon hunters down here as up north. Or, at least, they're not advertising as much. If anyone is near my area, or knows of some honest contacts in the area, I would truly appreciate it.

Seen some from the mountains do pretty good down here. Biggest shock is the Armadillo and the deep water. There are not as many coon hunters down here as there are in other states. But seems to be more now than it has been in a long time. I live down in San Mateo which is just South of Palatka. Probably 45-60 minutes from you, depending on what side of Orange Park you live. Actually up in Waycross, Ga there are several hunters and they are having one of the largest hunts they have all year. This week and this weekend coming up. Biggest thing is finding hunting ground. Mostly private clubs and some are dog running clubs and some are not. I am fortunate to be in a dog running club and it is only 10 minutes from the house. You want to talk dogs or need some questions answered. Just give me a call. 386-972-9446 You ain't afraid of snakes I got some swamps we can test out your legs in.
