Yes, hogs can run all day…in the thick briar patches it is hard to catch them when they are dog smart…they tend to run from briar patch to the next briar patch and then they rest a little while before the dogs get too close before running again…personally I’d rather not use a bulldog but I do own one…
Back in my younger days when we had more hunting places available my favorite way was running 5 of my dogs at once…if they caught a big boar they would keep him bayed and caught…or a combination of both…the hog wouldn’t be able to run…as the dogs tired they eased up and bayed…once they heard me coming they fired up and caught again…I used to encourage that when I got there and then I would stick the hog…it was during these times that a dog can get hurt pretty bad because they throw caution to the wind…this put knots in my stomach just thinking about what could happen in a split second…I started carrying a 22 mag pistol and I trained my dogs to back away and I just shot the hog…this helped in minimizing injuries…
When my brother and I first started hunting we caught mostly sows and shoats…we bought a big wild boar from a friend that didn’t have any more use for it…we had built a training pen and we put him in it and had our dogs bay…one or two dogs at a time…not long after we started catching nothing but boar hogs and once in a while a sow or shoat…before, in keeping it easy we would catch a shoat or young sow and stage a rigging situation or a hunt…
I now use running vest on the dogs that need it…

Training dogs is not so much about quantity, it's more about timing, and the right situations...After that it's up to the dog....A hunting dog is born...
