Foot pad help

My hunting buddy has a 4 year old dog that has been limping in the pen but when you take him out he seems to be fine. Looked at one of his back pads and it is pretty deeply cracked but not bleeding or raw , just dry and cracked. Any ideas how to treat this? Dog has been mostly laid up this summer and is on dirt.
