At what age do you recommend giving Ivermectin to pups? I'm using the injectable but giving it oral (over feed) to adult hounds. Also bought my 1st plot. Are you plot owners using ivermectin?

I have a few plotts and they are on ivomec…
I start pups at 3 to 4 months on ivomec…
Been doing it this way for many years without a problem…

If you use this, don't wait until you are out to buy more, I called 5/6 places and they were all out of it , looked online, click to order and then it comes up out of stock, I finally found some 45 minutes away. I live in Missouri. I guess people really are using this towards covid-19, NO way for me.

Ivermectin seems to be pretty safe. I have given it to pups at 3 weeks. One drop.

Personal theory with no proof other than my dogs have not appeared to of ever gotten heart worms…

I give my grown dogs close to 2.5 times more than a monthly dose…but I do it once every 3 months…

The logic is that it takes 6 months for heart worms to mature…so at 3 months when I dose the dogs any HW larvae will die…ivomec will keep working for at least a month thereafter…and I treat again at 3 months…chances are larvae couldn’t be no more than two months old or less when the administered dose kills the larvae…

Since pups are born without HW’s giving a dose at 3 to 4 months shouldn’t be a problem…

Heart worm larvae mature at 6 months and they also say ivomec does not kill adult HW’s…

On females I want to get a litter of pups from I cut back on how much ivomec to give…
