Land Between the Lakes in KY...is it worth it?

Been sitting around day dreaming about a getaway somewhere, and LBL was one of the first places to cross my mind. I've got two small children, so this would be a combo trip. Keep kiddos and Mrs entertained during the day, hunt when they go to bed. It would be a Friday-Sunday trip. Looks like Lake Barkley State Resort Park has an indoor pool and other kid-friendly options. Problem is, it's 3.5 hrs from the house and I've never hunted there, so I don't know if it's worth hauling the dog with us or not. Anyone with LBL experience have input? I'd most likely be going during the "train only" season (2nd or 3rd weekend in Oct), and based on what was published last year there are only 2 areas on the KY side open for running dogs. Is it worth the trip, or should I keep researching other places with similar amenities? I've got other options already that don't include taking the dog, but it's always fun thinking about hunting somewhere new and treeing a few!

Forest service operates lbl. Oct is running season only and not the full month. The season is Dec1 thru feb 28
Area 1 and area 9 are only ones open to running season on the ky portion.
Area 9 doesn't have good rd access and few if any crops.
Area 1 has many roads, crops and a much bigger area to hunt
Some hunters don't like going to lbl on pkc or ukc hunts.
Bring deer tick spray

I originally thought the same as you, the season there is same as regular KY season. But after digging in a little deeper, found the info lblhunter shared. I guess the only way to really find out how it hunts is to load up the wife, kids, and granny dog and go.

I would say your kids would enjoy it. If you stay around Cadiz or Aurora theres a planetarium and a bison and elk viewing area. As you mentioned the kids can swim fishing can be quite good. Area 9 will be south west of CadiZ and area 1 is north of you. You will get differwmt answers on the quality of hunting in lbl. I have had good hunts and bad. I always enjoyed hunting lbl for the most part whether on casts or pleasure hunting. I also like hunting those big bottoms in that part of the state.
