total knee replacement

how many coon hunters have had a knee replaced or both and still able to coon hunt ? Are you hunting by yourself or with a friend? I have had both knees total replacements and live in Pennsylvania it can be rough hunting and these new knees are not like the originals !

I know some that have knee replacement and still coon hunt. I feel your pain though about hunting in the mountains, it's hard enough when you are in good shape, anything less and it's really hard. I tore my ACL in my right knee Jan 2020 and never had the surgery to repair due to the Covid pandemic. I can walk good on level ground, but these mountains are a different story. It's definitely slowed me down, I no longer hunt by myself and I don't always make it to every tree. I am grateful to my hunting buddies that hunt with me and go to every tree when I can not make it. Dave, thanks for reply going up the hills seems to be a little better than coming down I was thinking about going to autum oaks to look for a new prospect but not sure if I will make it that is a 10 hour drive and it is hard to get comfortable in the truck for that long at a time still have aweek to make up my mind glad to hear you are still able to hunt it would be hard not to be able to coon hunt when it has been a big part. of our lives

I had a total knee replacement done in November. I still hunt, just not like before. I sold the huge hunting dog I had. And kept a closer hunting lay up dog instead. It's flat country and patch woods, but the night hunts are tough, keeping up with a cast and walking to the big hunting loner's might be a thing of the past at least for me.

I had right knee replaced several years ago.Slowed me down for a while but never even think of it anymore.Im now 76 years young and try to hunt at least every other nite.If i really overdue it my left knee will start to give me trouble, especially going downhill as you mentioned.

I had a total knee replacement 4 years ago. Doctor promised me I would be hunting in 3 weeks. 3 weeks and 2 days later I was walking hills. On snow. I still hunt 4-6 days a week. I am 65.
The reason? I went with modern technology. Find a Dr that does 3D imaging. It is amazing. I went back to work at 6 weeks.carrying car parts. had 150° mobility at 6 weeks, that used to be the Goal for 5 months.. I had very little pain for 5-6 days. Then none.
I would do it again over a root canal in a minute. Not like it was 10 years ago.

I have had both mine replaced. I still hunt but not like I used to. I am 59 so that factors in also. My biggest issue is getting over logs and brush. I’ve lost a lot of my flexibility. Without the replacements I probably wouldn’t be hunting. Make the best of it and good luck.
