Thinking about crossbreeding some high power walker blood up with one of my really good leopard females. I see traits in both lines of dogs I like really well. Don't see many people making this type of cross probably because there's not many leopards out there. Also people get bent out of shape when you talk about crossbreeding. I have nothing against it and like trying to bring the traits of two lines together

Do it if you want to, never know unless you try. Now that cross breeds can be registered and put in hunts just like the purebreeds, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I think a lot of folks have forgotten just how we came up with the pure breeds. We started from grade dogs, breeding the best to the best. I do not breed dogs myself, but I love a good coon dog no matter what the breed and I have seen some really good cross bred dogs in my 72 years. Breed what suits you and if the cross does not work, it's no different that ALL of the hundreds of crosses that fail with purebred dogs. Dave

You might get those good traits you see that you like or you might get the bad traits that you see or don't see. Or a combination of good and bad. You never know what you are going to get with a cross like that.

One of the best dogs ive ever owned was half mt curr and half walker.Looked like youd picture a half curr half hound.Had a mouth like a hound.Beautiful locate.He was a coon and squirrel dog.would tree a coon on anybodys dog.I didnt breed or train him.I bought him at 1 yr old and he wasnt cheap.Nobody that hunted with him made fun of him being a crossbreed.ha.

3/4 walker 1/4 Redbone best dog I have ever known for accuracy, hunt, consistently in hunt mode night after night and tuff as a pine knot!

Leopard curs are crossbred dogs already anyway where else can you get a red merle a blue merle and black n tan in the same litter the most famous leopard cur ever had treeing walker in him we all know that they are just treeing curs and that's why the breed is next to nothing today

if the female and male are coon dogs then breed them, a dog being full blooded dont mean nothing when it comes to treeing coons.

Let’s face it, today’s xbreeding is the “legal” way to do what many successful breeders did in the past. DNA testing curved it a bit but breeders of 20-30 years ago and beyond messed with crossing. Some of it was outside of the coonhound breeds also. A lot of bird dog and running dogs were added. I say go for it and tell us how you like it or what you learned from it.

I am not against cross breeding…I have done it in the past to bring in something I thought I needed…

Sometime in the near future I will cross a Plott with a kemmer Mt cur…and then breed the pups back to a kemmer…

My thinking is that the kemmers need new blood brought in…I would like to raise a few of these pups and see what they will do…

I might register the best 3 or 4 pups…
