So I have a question and it may not even be a problem but I would like some feed back please
So I have 3 younger dogs that got started a lot later than I feel like they should have I just got them 3 weeks ago 1 male is 9 months old 1 is 8 months old and a female which is 1 year old the 9 month old is doing absolutely great and trees a caged coon every time and even started letting coons out without him seeing it and trees those too
The female does great with a caged coon all the fight you could ever ask for good strong bark put the coon in a tree 6 feet or so high barks until the cows come home great but if I turn loose a coon and even if she sees it go up the tree barks for a few sec then barley even squeaks she bites the bark off and will try to climb the tree for an hour if you let her how do I break this and get her to bark and now she is starting to teach the 8 month old this also but he does bark while he is doing this any suggestions would be appreciated

your dogs are still very young and don't push them too hard. The right age to get them started. Treeing syle is an inherited trait and very hard to change.

Nick as to your feelings on them getting a late start. Your feelings are totally your own and no Man should try and change that. With that said. If a hound has what it takes. Starting at even 2 years old will allow that hound to become a nice coon treeing dog. You just go through the motions and give the dog a chance. You have to set your expectations. Give the dog some time to meet them. Then be happy with the results or move on. Don't hunt looking for any excuses why things are not working out. Only hunt looking towards what your expectations are. That is dogs that hunts, run and tree coon. Don't get bogged down in the past. Also you might learn in the future that hunting and starting one dog is a challenge. Hunting 3 young ones will really test your skills. But all you can do is set standards and give them a chance. Spend as much time as you can with them. Then enjoy them.

I have been out of coon hunting for about 15 years and then I only did it as a hobby as a boy so I’m playing catch up when it comes to training and trying to get into competition hunting there is not a lot of places to learn from and I know no one that hunts anymore so I read and put as many coons in front of my dogs as possible I have picked which one I’m going to comp hunt I think he has the most qualities I like what I’ve read it’s good to start around 6 months and I would really like to get 1 ready for this fall

Keep them in the woods. Read up on the rules. With your determation and desire. You will be ready.
