Making this sport simple.

We come on here and all love to share what has worked for us. We all share opinions and points of view. We love to challenge the other guy with our thoughts of what is right.

I watched a hunt this weekend of FB that should simplify coonhunting in many minds. By simplifying I mean. Give a person an understanding of just what it takes to win. It is no secret but something that escapes a lot of us. Because we accept less. Also I want to point out that getting from Point A to Point B or from a Puppy to a Trained Hound is not easy. And I will agree that is what we dicsuss on here is exactly that a lot of times. But I feel it is not discussed with the understanding of just what a person should be looking for or trying to accomplish when their dog is a finished hound. We overcomplicate it. Treeing coon is not complicated. It is only complicated when you accept less that what your standards are. If your standards are being met with your hounds. Enjoy them. If your standards are being met and the hound is not actually capable of competing or treeing coon as you would like them to do. Raise your standards.
The hunt I watched had 4 capable and proven dogs, tree coons. The winner had 3 fourth strikes for 25 each and had 3 trees with coon in them. So it takes trees with coon in them, a dog staying busy but not hunting out of hearing and not getting any minus. Please lets have fun on here and over complicate things. But in the woods where it counts. Lets have fun by keeping it simple.

I agree with your post 100%. Just need an accurate dog that hunts to tree coons.

Bruce you know ive always thought of you as a real person that has always tried to make people think outside the box without your views or beliefs swaying thee opinion. However this post has a lot of value in the way people should look at there dogs, but the name or the concept of the word SIMPLE being used is a little off the mark(in my opinion)Lets me explain,You watched a hunt with 4 handlers that have been around the block for years and have all been in some significant money payouts. They probably made it look simple because they knew the rules,Knowing the rules and how to apply them are huge in this game,When someone dont not only know the rules but know how to apply them you seem to have problems. When someone feels they are cheated(Which is very very unlikely with the judges that are judging these events, im not talking about a 30 dollar week night event) they tend to cause huge problems for everyone out on the cast. Then they get home get on social media tell a one sided story and it puts a black eye on the sport with all involved not ranting about the word simple being in the caption im simply trying to make people understand the importance of learning, studying and using the rules every time you hunt even pleasure hunting sure makes it like second nature when your in that situation. Theres one thing for sure 4 guys that know the rules very seldom have a issue while on a cast.

.

John, I understand your point. Nothing can take the place of knowing the rules.
