I know alot of people that do this trying to save money.
Medication that is not scored is not meant to be split.
Since were talking flea and tick meds well use them as examples. A pill for a 100lb dog only guarantees that the pill contains the proper dosage for a 100lb. When you split the meds the medication may not be equally distibuted. Even meds that are scored doesnt mean half the med is distributed on either side.

All I know is I know of probably 100 dogs that this is being done this way. It’s been very successful for them all.

Do you think these pills are made individually?

To answer your question, no I do not think these pills are made individually. They are formulated to have a set amount of active ingredient and set amount of fillers and binders to form the medication whether in pill or tablet form. The 500mg Tylenol you buy is formulated so that each pill, or tablet has 500mg of active ingredient in each one. That doesn’t mean that if you cut it in half that each half has 250mg of active ingredient. It in fact could have more or have less. I like everyone else would like to save a dollar when I can. Another reason not to do this is a lot of heart worm medication company’s will stand behind there product if the med is purchased from a reputable source and administered according to there protocols. Some will pay for all heartwarming treatments if they test positive after being on meds for a certain amount of time.

If you cut a biscuit in half, will one half have more baking powder than the other?

I would say yes, unless you are in some lab with a bunch of scientific equipment there is bo way to guarantee each biscuit will have the exact same proportions of ingredients.
I knew before posting that this would be received this way.
That is what makes the forum interesting wveryone has there own ideas and opinions.

Just had a 5 week Heeler pup at the vets a couple weeks ago and she cut in half a Drontal Plus pill for him. I guess I got lucky and got the half that had the meds in it since it worked and wormed him out. LOL. Gonna feel sorry for the poor sap that got the other half of the pill.

Hmmmmm, I've never baked a pan of biscuits where one rose less than the other nineteen.

Frontal plus is a medication that is safe and designed to be split.

I've been cutting Nexgard in half for three years and none of my dogs have fleas. And I don't have a scientific dough mixer and my biscuits rise evenly.

Fleas n ticks

I use either Nexguard Spectra or Simparica Trio from Canadavet.com. Year round. Never again will I stop giving in the winter month like some might think bugs an such are dormant. It will bite you in the a$$ sooner or later. I was splitting pills , but have mixed feelings about it too. I dont do it anymore.

I've been reading the commits about not splitting pills and finally feel I have to respond. Do you believe that they pour the different ingredients into a individual pill form with little or no mixing? NO! Pills start out in a huge vat of different ingredients that are thoroughly mixed then fed into pressers that create the pill form.

The medical community has advocated splitting pills for years to change dosage rates. You get the same percentages of active meds in each part of the pill. Buy the 120 pound pill and cut it in half for two 60 pound dogs if you want to, saves money.
