I would guess most of us like a bawl/squall mouth on track and good locate then chop mouth on tree. But I really like a bawl mouth tree dog if it is a distinctive changeover.

Chop mouth all the way, fairly quite on track. Kind of sneaky.

Stone silent on track. Then I don’t care how they bark on tree. As long as they don’t move around and don’t jack the tree.

Interesting reply. Am a ole Mississippi boy myself. I do prefer a bawl on track an hard fast chop on tree. Chop all the way seems to make a faster track dog . As long as as they have a change over am really fine with a chop mouth all the way

sgraves where in Mississippi did you live? I've lived in the delta all my life; good flat hunting. Back when I hunted in quite a few hunts,I liked a dog that chopped on track and had minimal change over. I always knew the dog I was hunting and didn't have any trouble telling what he was doing. I hunted many years before tracking systems came into play. Too many times I've seen the big long locate dog get called treed by another handler. Jr. Steelman.

Dying Bawl Locate breaking into a hard steady chop on tree. And have the meat. Give me that, and I won't worry about the track mouth.
