Just wanted to give a update on my walker coonhound pup
Virginia rebels midnight moonshine madness.
A lot of folks say nothing t to show a young pup a live
Coon in a cage because it may scare them and what not
Well that's crap in my opinion..
Trapped a big boar coon the other night ( mean ol thing)
At first rebel didn't know what to make of it and then.... lightning
In a bottle!
He was scared of it at first when it jumped at him and growled
And then all of a sudden my boy got MEAN!
and it's like a lightbulb went off in his head lol
He got the meanest look on his face I have ever seen
In my life( kinda creeped me out)
And he walked up to the cage snarling and growling and barking every breath. Trying to physically bite the cage and shake it..I was dumbfounded to be honest.
5 out of 5 drags through the woods he was absolutely on point
I'm so proud of my little guy! His daddy's daddy is deer Creek diesiel and his mommy is out of insane jane

Oh yes I'm estatic!!
All my buddies tell me he is gonna be on fire at a year old.
Right now it's going on almost 10:30 and I'm fixing to take him out to run.. I'm taking it slow and easy with him but he has been in the woods with me as long as I have had him. Every day 3-4
Hours..most of the time doing nothing but being a puppy
But I knew it was good for him at the same time teaching him to cross logs, cross creeks... getting him used to being out in the rain at night, teaching him to come to me when I call him.
Now don't get me wrong, he still has a hell of way to go
Before he is ready for the big leagues, but by the time he is a year old, he will be unstoppable in the coon woods..
His next step will be to track the coon in the cage at night.
This type of training will go on for the next couple months
Until I feel he is good enough and confident enough in his own abilities for me to turn a few loose and let him tree them.
Right now I'm trapping coons just for this reason..
I always thought the biggest thing with a good hound is the
Genetics and bloodline.

I don’t know how much experience you have...if you have extensive hunting dog experience then my apologies to you...

I just want to mention for you to be careful in not over training the pup and possibly create burnout in the pup ...an example would be a kid that was fed all the ice cream he could eat each day and after a while he won’t want any more...feed the kid the right amount and he will look forward to having the ice cream each time it’s offered to him...the same can happen with a pup with too much hunting time...

A positive...a sure enough outstanding pup that is way over the normal curve can be very exciting...especially with someone who can appreciate greatness...your excitement and enthusiasm Is infectious and the pup will respond to a higher level of hunting based on your enthusiasm...

Thank you for the heads up. I never stopped to consider the point you just made. It's a **** good important one..
Your absolutely right about that..
I need to chill out and give him time off to just be his normal
Puppy self. Let him play and romp..like letting a kid be a kid

Yeah I just turned the big boar loose to go live his life
Guess it's back to long walks in the woods with my best buddy🤗🤗. And ya know what. That's ok...because now I know that he knows what I want outta him...and to see if he had it in him and he does..his bloodline and genetics are proven with his daddy's daddy being deer Creek Diesel...and his mommy's mommy being insane Jane...he will be ok. And in another 8 months. No telling how good he will become with lots of love and patience
