Please help me with this, I can’t find the right forum and I have questions!

Much earlier today I rescued a dog from a very bad situation. She was a puppy mill breeder dog at age 7 (just had her last litter, pups were very recently weaned, teats on her are huge)

I am not going on why I decided to get this dog, she’s a bluetick coonhound and was about to be put to sleep due to the fact she was “useless” to the breeder - too old - already having extremely deformed puppies etc. I didn’t go to this dude looking for a dog it just happened, I didn’t know he bred dogs but he breds about it 10 different kind.

He told me he could have the bluetick i’m talking about for free “he needs to get rid of her” I said....um sure? The breeder said she was fully house broken (SHE IS NOT SHE SPENT HER ENTIRE LIFE OUTSIDE) so this is a headache not only we have to bring her outside every 30 minutes but she is literally...scared of everything. She can not walk on a leash like the breeder said the bluetick goes absolutely nuts when taken outside to potty it’s like she doesn’t even know how to walk besides take one step forward take 5 steps back. She is terrified so much of being outside i don’t know how I could possibly housebroken her. I don’t want an hunting dog. I want a pet. How do I show her the world isn’t so bad after all? I know she was severely abused in her 7 years of life...

Oh please if anyone could help me...

Well the bad is it took a long time to make her that way and it’s gonna take a good while to turn her around. First thing I would do is call the law on that guy. Secondly she needs to have a space of her own that she feels safe i.e. a crate (fully enclosed). She’s not gonna respond to discipline so treats are the way to go. Pieces of hot dog work good. Also find a dog food she loves it make a combo at home. Careful though, I’m sure she wasn’t on a good food to start with so starting a probiotic would help as well. Feed small amounts at first and work your way up to the right amount for her. I would feed her after walks so she associates walks with food. Every time she pees outside she gets a treat, if she pees in the house you don’t say anything to her just take her outside. After a few months you’ll see a difference. In a year you’ll have a good bond with her. Takes patience for sure.

I wouldn't say she was abused. Sounds more like neglected.
you took on a job. It's going to take work, patients and time.

Oh I know how to house break pups! It’s annoying having to go outside every 20 minutes but do-able. I have NOT house trained a full grown dog before tho...

I *do* have an old wire on all sides cage that Only problem I’m sure ole puppymill joe kept her in a crate ALOT. I think she was kept in these small, skinny kennels out back behind then house. I don’t want to scare her more.

Oh and ah about food... she’s too weird about it. They were feeding her the worst dog food I can actually think of and I know ALOT about dog food. I won’t mention the name because when I was browsingsome nutrical-cal (used to be Called that now it’s called something else - it,s basically super high calorie gel paste in a tube) I’m talking about food a lot because you brought up training treats ... this is the least food motivated dog and I cannot understand why. She is SO SO SO thin like a **** blue spotted greyhound on a diet. I will try to upload an pic later to show you how truly skinny she is and how big here teats are! There’s gotta be some Milk 🥛 in there still!

She absolutely had no idea what a dog is, doesn’t matter the type

THE WORST PART IS HER REFUSAL TO GO OUTSIDE BECAUSE SHE IS SO SCARED! As soon as we are out there she runs to the door to come back in. Since then she has not gone to the bathroom even once :/ blocking her off in my kitchen with a baby gate and putting puppy pads down. So taking her out on walks is literally out of the question this is the weirdest dog iv ever seen. She literally doesn’t know how to be a dog. My German shepherd loves to eat loves toys and LOVES WALKS!!’

any more suggestions? Also bare in mind it’s near freezing with tons of snow on the ground
I don’t think anyone wants to go for a walk lol
But she can’t keep shitting in the house!

Have you had her to a vet? The first thing I would suspect with not wanting to eat and recent weaning is pyometra. Has she been excessively thirsty? It can have some vague symptoms but hounds usually like their food if it's good. One thing I know helps with mine (ours live in the house) is talking and repetition. They are very vocal and not many people realize they don't just make noise, they listen. If you clearly tell her she's going for a walk, use the same words and walk the same place each time you should see her start to relax about it. You can't control everything about every new experience but you can use your words to make it more routine. If you can settle her down she may be the best dog you ever knew. You are correct that coonhounds are weird. They are not like other dogs. If you don't figure out what their motivations are you can't correct a behavior and their motivations can be weird. I had one that was afraid of boots and hiking shoes for a while. We never figured that one out.

A word of caution - if she panics all the time and doesn't seem able to eventually get used to things don't let her around children. A scared dog is a potential self-defense biter. If you have children in the home you may want to look into rehoming her. These dogs are capable of intimidating bears and lions and a fear biter isn't a joke.
