First off make sure it is not the dog food...I changed brands and the head shaking and ear scratching stopped...I knew it wasn’t ear mites but I believe I learned about the dog food from this website...

For ear mites I give about 1.5 cc of ivomec and a week later do the same thing and the cycle will be broken...

I have my wife make some meat and gravy and mix the ivomec with a little bit of the meat and gravy and the dog Licks the bowl clean...

For a ~60 lb. dog...
My dogs don’t get ear mites often but when they do I use ivomec...been doing it this way for at least 40 years...

The flea and tick chews Nexgard, Simplica ect kill ear and skin mites, easiest way to kill and be rid of for good.
Ivomec will kill them also permethrin (active ingredient in many OTC treatments) don't forget to treat the environment the dog is exposed to. Get rid of all old bedding and treat it's house and dog box. Like many parasites ear mites are on around a 3 week life cycle unless your dog is on one of the flea and tick chews you will have to re-treat to break the life cycle.
Ear mites leave a coffee ground looking debris in the ear but can also cause a secondary infection that is bacterial or fungal sometimes both. Either will require additional treatment.
