judging the 1 hour double header ?

by the rules in a 2 hour cast dogs are scratched when they draw -400 . so in a one hour hunt do you scratch a dog when it draws -200 ? if no why not ? seems like to me the rules should be adjusted to fit the shorter time format of the 1 hour hunt.

I think there will be alot of dead casts due to no plus points on the scorecard after hunting 1 hour . Wont take long until most clubs go to 90 minute casts !

Wait till you get 2-3 dead loners and are checking trees after time of the hunt is over. And if they change the no leash lock rule... A dead loner is behind... Cut loose with a little time left..You'll be walking everywhere. .. IMO

Last weekend there was a double double header slam (2 night) in Oklahoma, their Winter Classic. A total of 106 entries not one complaint about format or time, and not one question was brought back. I think a few of you over analyze some things. We had one in January at our club with the same result, happy hunters. There were few dead cast but the weather was not the best last weekend. Saturday sustained winds of 35-40 mph and gusts much higher. The highest score in 4 rounds was either 250 or 275 I can't remember which, Dalton Cummings had it with a bluetick female he is hunting for Tim Stone. All those who were die hard UKC hunters had their hand out for the $ when they made a final 4. Many faces we see at $ hunts were there, crossovers as some call them so the format has accomplished that without scaring off the regulars. There was at least one minus out in the hour long cast. I handed out boxes of candy to the biggest losers lol. There was only 1 guy got two cast wins out of all the entries and 4 rounds of hunting. Congrats to Tim Pinney and BoBo!

Love the 1-hr hunts .. don't complain until you hunt them.. most people just give reasons for what could be wrong not for what could be right.. so good job UKC.. just need a count down on tree.

One hour hunt

From what I have seen if your dog can't tree a coon in an hour more than likely not going to tree many the next hour or that's the way mine operate in my opinion

Excellent post, just a prime example of positive thinking, excellent turnouts and happy hunters. All those gloom and doom guys just don't get it, life is what you make out of it. Congratulations on your hunt, wish I was closer, I know your hunt would be a blast. Dave

I don't like a 1 hr hunt but if my dog cant score a coon in a hour then the hunt time is not the problem.

For the question about the 400-. If making it 200 because its a 1 hour hunt then wouldn't it makes sense in a 2 hour hunt to scratch them if they get 200 in the first hour? Doesn't make sense to me, I don't think we need to change it.

Not all gloom and doom.. All angles need to be looked at. Once a rule changes, it ain't going back to the way it was.

One hour hunts are the future. With declining areas to hunt, and smaller acreage on the ones you can, it will become the norm, and 2 hour will go the way of the 3 hour hunts. It will become just a memory, like those ole Tar likes to chat about. I agree that the dead loner will be at a disadvantage, but there above is the reason a dog like that will become unwanted also. They are almost impossible to hunt around here without trespassing, and an earlier post shows what can happen then. UKC got it right by giving the clubs an option on hunt times so length can be tailored to available ground to hunt on, without having to ride two hours at a "local" hunt to do so.

I guess I don't understand why guys don't break the barking in the box. It's not that hard to do. Only time mine bark in the box is if I drive by a coon crossing the road and that's not often.

Robert, the 1 hour hunts are tailor made for a dead loner that gets struck fast. I've seen it several times. Leave barking, get first strike, cover country and get treed up a bush with a coon. The rest get treed close and are leash locked for the rest of the hour and the hunts over. The 1 hour hunts in the other KC is what made them so popular.

Michael, that type is going to win whether it is a 1 hr or 2 hr hunt. That is why all comp hunters want a first strike deep and alone dog now. They don't even attempt to trash break them these days. They don't care what they strike and leave the country on as long as they end up under a coon. Their big excuse when they get beat is, "my dog got out of pocket". It is a badge of honor with them. You will usually also hear, " I found him treed with a coon after the hunt".

Raccons win!

At the end of the day if you can put your dog in 10 casts no matter what company you draw and he trees 10 coons (one in each cast) your going to win %50+ those casts. It doesn't matter if your struck for 25 or 100. Doesn't matter if he's 50 yards or a mile. If you see your coon you WILL win!

I do believe that the leash lock rule could/should be done away with. But that's the way its been for years so I'm sure it wont be changed.

You guys way over analyze stuff. I swear it gets so old coming on this forum and reading the complaints about rules or this won’t work in this cast or this format is going to To this to the breeds. Who cares. Worry about what is on the end of your dog lead. I don’t care if you hunt 10 hours or 10 minutes Coons in those trees your dog is at is what wins. It doesn’t matter if you hunt a Stone silent 25 strike dog every time you turn him loose if he has a coon about every time he parks and he moves good enough your going to win.
Everyone is So dang worried about the babbling barking dogs. I’m at a hunt almost every weekend from one end of the country to the other hunted with hundreds of these so called good suckers and I’ve only seen 5 or 6 barking idiots in the whole group. How about this for a RULE PROPOSAL show up to the hunt early visit and be friendly. When you get to the woods Strike your dog when it strikes and tree it when it trees. That’s it that’s all you should do if your packing a good sucker it will all work out. Let’s just quit the whining and crying like a bunch of liberal sissy’s
