Got a male dog around 15 months old that has treed several coon and looks good doing it. When another dog trees with him he will face bark some. Never anything more that I know about.any tips on trying to break him? Or is it a losing battle and need to move on.

Hunt him with a hard tree dog that pays him no attention, go to the tree and let them tree till he gets burnt out. Worked for me. Have him hunted down first

A 15 month old pup that is a hard tree dog sometimes gets such an adrenaline rush for the first 3-4 months and do not know what to do with it, or how to behave when that adrenaline starts running, so they do what their natural instinct tells them to do and that is show aggression when adrenaline is flowing.

He may settle down in another 3-4 months or he may get worse in another 3-4 months. I would not hunt him with anything that cannot stay calm in this situation, and if he continues to show that aggression after another 3-4 months I would cut my losses.

But Thats just me, I surely don't have the magic answer for any problems, but I have grown up with hounds since my birth and I'm now 63. Good Luck with what ever you decide

Mr Mayles is right. Some grow out of it as they mature and some don't. Each dog is different and needs to be handled differently. There isn't one cure all that fits all dogs.

Make sure that he understands that " NO" means that when it is given as a command it means immediately cease whatever action that is going on. Preprogram him so that when you give the command while he is eating at a food bowl with another dog that he will immediately Cease eating. Good luck with him. You can probably tell from hunting with his parents what the future holds. If he requires multiple corrections then cut your losses as he is too dumb to be a top dog.

1. Find a dog that is a stand on the tree, head up hard tree dog that obvious to another dog
2. Hunt your dog down hard
3. Let him get treed
4. Lead your tree dog in and turn it loose
5. Find log and wait, after a hour or so he won't think face barking is that fun
6. Do it again same night
7. Do it again same night

This broke the worst face barker I've owned or seen

I have seen 3 different dogs broke from that by trying to bend a rifle barrel over their heads, knocked couple of them out but they stopped that face barking.

I agree with mr Mayles . Do not hunt him with anything that can’t stay calm with him face barking. Get small switch and with a buddy crowed them somewhat close together leaving them some space to move and like what was mentioned b4 anytime he turns his head give him Light correction. Worked for me when my male was younger. Now he just stays out of trouble if there’s a rough dog on the tree. Remember he’s still a pup if he don’t come out of it in a while I’d cut my losses.
