time to step back !!!

I took a pup out tonight that has only been to the woods 3 or 4 times it's whole life ....seen half dozen coons in cages or turned loose ...and no shocker no tracker just me a hound and a light ... had more fun tonight than I can remember!!! pup is 8 month old redbone and first time he ever made a tree in his life ran track for 5minutes in the corn amd put the bandit in the tree looking down !!! the past two or 3 years I've tried to stay on top and buy the electronics and trying to get a hound that would tree and find the next best thing !! after many many hounds never being satisfied killed my motivation to want to hunt.....i think the ticket is just a good young dog and a good night to tree coons the rest puts too much stress into it ......hell never had the fancy stuff till 10yrs ago and they was much better hounds back then than we have today no one chasing trophys or points ....they was chasing coons and hides !!! bragging rights were on a side of a tree and talked about for years .....not bought with lots of $$$$ or hauled all over the country ... you hunted what ya had and made the best of it ...when the old hound treed his last after years of memories you sadly hung your head ...and brought a puppy home to fill his shoes....im stepping back in time to make memories and enjoy the hunt ...all the hunts and stress is going to stay in my past !!! me and this pup is going to enjoy every night out ...hes going to be a buddy to tree coons with instead of a hound to hunt ......

x2. I made the same choice several months ago and I am glad I did a lot more fun. I have a three year old hound that is my best hunting buddy. enjoy your pup and safe hunting.

I am sure there are people still using them, if I was on a hunting trip I would use as a backup to my Garmin. [ both collars at the same time ] Beeper systems have a greater range and longer battery life. Dave

Night Cry I know exactly what you are saying , but I lost some dang good young dogs years ago due to not having a Tracking system , I have and use my Garmin Alpha , I still have my wildlife-10 and 10 collars I have the ones that you could take the batteries out of the collars , that is exactly what I did took the batteries out and put them and the Box in the bag and put them up. I prefer the Alpha less time spent looking or getting to the dogs .
