IL. MIGHTY BLUE JAKE
ELMO, I'm planning on doing a Story in the Bluebook this Year on IL. MIGHTY BLUE JAKE. Came from Mr. Frank Erwin and I had him as a Pup. Started and trained him here on the River where I am now. Hard going hound, Lots of Giddy Up. Real Good Mouth, Quick Tree Dog. Sometimes a little to quick but that's when he was young and just getting cranking. I cut him here from the House one night and he took a Coon across the River into the Big Chunk of Land the Selfish Landowner across the River from me owns. No One in my neighborhood gets along with the guy and most of his property has a 10' tall Net Wire Fence around it. Anyway, I didn't have a Beep Beep Tracker and Jake got out of hearing. I circled the Area in my truck all night listening from everywhere. Never heard Jake again. For months I kept asking and looking for my dog, finally just put it off my mind. Talked with Mr. Fred Lingo and had me a Pup booked off Wild and Blue Spanky and Mr. Fred's Jill gyp. 4th Cross I believe, same litter Pounder came from. Anyway, my Son who lives about 20 miles west of me called one day and said a Bluetick was getting into their garbage and did I want him. Said he had the Mange, Starving to Death and just looked awful. I told him Heck No, don't bring that dog out here. Well, he did that morning. Feeling sorry for the dog and wanting me to help get him better. I fed and wormed him then went back in the house while Shane and his friend was out in the yard. The hound went to bawling and bawling in that pen getting on my nerves. Shane came in and said, I think he's winding something. Figuring it was a Deer and that I would be rid of the dang stray dog if they let him out and he ran that deer out of here I told Shane to cut him loose. That starving, mangy dog went a 100 yards or so North West and fell treed on a Big River Birch that was Broke out in the top and you could see a Coons back stuck up out of there. We cut the dead tree down and when that coon came out of there, that Mangy Dog killed him Quick. I was like, what do we have here? Cut him that night and he ran and treed a Coon. I started Doctoring on this Poor Hound and as the weeks went by and Coon after Coon got treed by him I started noticing how he was sounding and looking more and more like my Jake dog I lost. He had about all his hair back and had put on some weight. I dug through my pictures and couldn't find a single one of Jake so I called Mr. Frank. He said, You don't think that Stray is Jake do you? I took him down there and Mr. Frank brought out the pictures of Jake when he had him as a Pup before I got him. Believe it or not, It WAS JAKE. All I can figure is that sorry landowner caught Jake and hauled him off, must have went west a ways and dumped him and took my collar off so I wouldn't get him back. Jake wandered up where I had hunted him some down there where I used to live in Chatawa and God kept him around long enough for my Good Hearted Son to find him then go against my wishes and Brought him out here. God helped guide my Hound Home. Mt. Frank met with Mr. Fred Lingo at the Roundup and brought me my new pup. I named him Knight. He was a real nice early starting pup that was accurate. Didn't have the hustle like Jake but was deadly accurate so I made the Mistake of choosing between them and selling Jake to Sam, one of Mr. Franks hunting Buddies. Mr. Ed later bought him and took him to Illinois where he treed many a Coon and was a Hell of a Reproducer. The pup I just bought in Kentucky is a Great Grand Daughter to Jake and off Bocephus. The story I'm going to do in the Bluebook will be titled, " JUST A " PR " DOG. " Now you know a little about Jake. I will save the rest for the Bluebook.
