according to the rules- your dog shouldn't be minused. unless hes not going back to treeing after he meets you. if he does go right back to treeing good, don't let someone bully you out of your points.

11.b. "... Dog should not be minused tree points if he comes back a short distance to meet handler if dog goes back in and trees satisfactorily. ..."

Just fix the problem and you won't have to worry about it. Rule says "should" not be minused but he "will" be minused by a lot of people. It is an easy fix. Just switch him and tell him to get back on the tree. Let him know that is an unacceptable behavior.

exactly and it states the dog has got to tree to the satisfaction of judge. People have different ideas on what is satisfactory. Best to fix the problem then take the chance of dog getting minused for being off the tree cause their is judges who will
Minus them just as there is handlers with a sorry hound that will try using the greeting excuse to compensate for a hound.

I agree with fixing the problem if you can but if the dog is within the rules then its right. if we know what the rule is and minus the dog anyway who's wrong the rule, the dog, judge?

And look at what you started. Just carry a switch with you when you go into the tree. Dogs have very good eyesight.

I

Hate it when I here hunters say that if they are judging and a dog does this or that they are going to minus them no matter what the rules say. Clubs should not let them judge

all the rules are spot on until you start losing then they are twisted until they fit lmbo. far as starting something maybe saying here is what the rules are but they won't be followed not standing up for what's right that's what's wrong jmo.

If the dog doesn't come close enough to switch it back on, then the dog didn't greet you in which case it is simply off the tree and should be minised.

unless I missed something no one said they would minus the dog. We said it can and does happen and yes you can question the judges call and vote and so on . Best thing to do is like Richard said to begin with and carry a switch if the dog is hard headed. Some you can holler at and make them go back. Train the dog before taking it to the hunts maybe you'll find there isn't as much cheating and twisting of the rules as one thinks there is.

Sounds like the response of a crybaby.
Dogs off wondering around the tree and his handler is crying " but the rules say he can meet me off the tree.....".

Or when he comes to you tie him right there where he meets you and walk into the tree get exited at the tree and don't let him come in. Do that a few times and he will stop coming to you.

All

I’m saying is if a dog is operating within the rules and is minused or scratched or whatever then the judge is the one at fault. I understand it is easier to fix the problem but you shouldn’t have to if it’s under the rules and u don’t want to and no I don’t have a dog that meets me or is off the tree. I just think you go by rules or try and get them changed if you don’t like them.

So here's a ? If you were down by 25 and got to the last tree of the hunt. Would you minus the dog if it greeted the handler but went back to treeing? Now how about on its way back to the tree it put its nose to the ground, like double checking its self?

I know how to score it, I know how its been scored on me, and on others.

How about a loose tree dog? Will back up away from the tree if another dog gets rough or jacks? But is still under the "canopy" or umbrella of the tree to be scored and looking at the tree?

No

To your first two questions. I’m wrong more than I’m right but I don’t think canopy and umbrella are in ukc rules. The big question I see in dog meeting you off tree is how far. Judgement call and we all know how those can go. I think most know when their dog is trying to trail off a tree if they will be honest. I may be wrong again but I think ukc said it didn’t matter where a dog had it’s nose going back to tree.

That is right. Blame it on the judge because you didn't fix the problem. It must be someone else's fault.

And if you don't like a rule just get it changed to something that you like or that fits your dog better. Don't train your dog to go by the rules.

Yes

Richard I blame it on the judge if he is not going by the rules. I also see nothing wrong with going through the right procedures to get rules changed that happens every year. Not to suit my dog. Example I would like to see a count down on tree. I’m just an old over the hill Tennessee hunter lighten up on me a little Richard.

I guess that us old guys need to stick together but sometimes it seems that everyone is so quick to jump on the poor judge and blame their shortcomings on him. That is why I hate to judge. Ninety-five per cent of the judges are trying to do the best job that they can. In a lot of cases a "judgement call" must be made. Everyone is different so their opinion of how a hound should act can be different. This affects their "judgement".

Richard

I agree most are to hard on judges. I’m one that’s to easy I guess. I been hunting in the hunts since early 70’s and have never put a ? On a card that I remember. Like u I hate to judge so that may be why I try not to question them.
