I don't think it's right !!!

When my Garmin arrow is pointing right handed and I can clearly hear my dog left. Recalibrate the compass and it's still that way only does it once in a while next drop might be right on the money might just be me but I think it messes with the compass I wear around my neck.

I learned to never argue with my Garmin. If you take a couple of steps it will reset and point in the right direction. Why in the world are you wearing a compass around your neck?

I carry a compass in my bibs. If I'm on the side of the road and the Garmin decides to go back asswards on me that's one thing if I'm a mile in the woods and five miles from the next road that's a different story lol. I like
my Garmin but I ain't goin far without a compass in my pocket. Had this one twenty years batteries haven't gone dead yet lol

Donnie that's why I carry a compass. I went from a beep beep to a alpha big leap for me I am electronically challenged lol. I always hit new hunt when I leave the truck when I start to go back I hit where to , waypoints , go , then back to compass and it gives you that big orange arrow back to the truck but sometimes it don't that's why I got that compass.

I carry a compass every night. There have been a few nights that my Garmin, even when calibrated, isn't correct.

My Alpha is always about 30 degrees off. I had a 220 that was the same way. My smart phone has the best compass I ever saw.

Wise men always have a backup plan, that's why I always have a compass to back up my Garmin. Nothing wrong with being prepared. Lol. Dave

.

Tar if you learn to do everything from the map page, I feel you will be a lot better off. You can see the dogs as they leave you. You can see their distance and what they are headed towards. When you start to them you can see your track on the screen. When you get to the tree you just follow your track back. If you want to cut corners to save steps do that but when you get back to your track, just follow it. I know a lot of people don't use that page but it is the one that gives you information on the big picture. Make sure you have it set on TRACK UP and when you hold your ALPHA in front of you. Everything on the screen will be just like it is the way your facing. Now it has a North arrow in the upper left of the screen. If that ever gets off then just calibrate the commas. Most of us know which way is north so it is easy to see when it gets off. Many people don't know this but touching the North Indicator changes the screen from Track up to North up. So if the screen looks backwards, just touch the N indicator and see if that fixes it.

Yes, communication towers can have an effect on it. Most the time it just kills the range if your on one side of them and the dog is on the other side.

I use that map page a lot I got where I have to wear my glasses now to see which side of the creek they are on. I use it to find the truck sometimes but I like that big orange arrow better.

Tar where I hunt the straight arrow back to the truck is almost never the best way to get back to the truck. Too many deep hollows and briars. I always use the map and seldom go straight to the dogs. I try to find the easiest way though it is longer. When I leave the tree I just follow the trail I made on the map coming in unless I figure out there was a better way in LOL. Treed 4 last night on public ground and never walked over 300 yards but that is not normal.
