How do they stay in business?

How do these magazines stay in business today. I get all three coon mags and wouldn't give them up for nothing but there are barely any stud ads anymore. I remember when every other page was a stud ad. Just got my new Cooner and I don't think there are a dozen ads. I guess few can justify the expense when the Internet is everywhere for free. I guess the Web has changed a lot of things.

Jim the guys figured out they can make more $$$ hunting than setting at home waiting on a stud fee if he is a winner he will breed those females at the hunt.

Me thinks so

I picked up a cooner a while back at my buddies. I thought they must have messed up and put cooner name on prohound because it was so thin. Nope, it was the cooner. I couldn’t believe it.

I guess I part of issue. 30 years ago I would run to the mailbox to get cooner and full cry. Now, I just go to the website

Maybe Bloodlines mag could learn a lesson from Trump's tax cut. Drop the price of the ads way down and get more of them and they will increase revenue. And then with more adds, they will increase circulation.

Exactly! Didn’t the Atlanta Falcons cut concession cost by half or so, and the sale of food was the highest ever? I wish more would follow!

People accuse me of being color blind. The truth is I will hunt red ones, blue ones, black and white ones, yellow ones, black and tan ones, or even brindle ones; Just as long as they are English!

No they will not they might pick some up a few but not near enough. The days of the mag are coming to an end. They will not be around in 5 to 10 years. I can pay Facebook $35 or can pay the mag $400. That $400 reaches a very small fraction of the people that the $35 reaches. Simple math.

I'm 33 and I agree with much of what you say. I have ran several ads in the magazines and have picked up breedings from them. I have also picked up a couple of breedings mainly through Facebook and this forum.

There is a very clear divide between the new generation and old generation of coon hunters. The older guys stick to the magazines. They are typically more accomplished breeders and when they call are usually serious about breeding.

The younger generation is wishy washy. They might follow through with their intentions but 4 out of 5 times usually they don't.

One thing remains true. If you are serious, make the CALL.

In 10 more years I think the magazines will still be here but I think the way we see advertising continue in the trend towards digital media platforms.

I do agree with you, $400 for a single month ad is very high when I can reach considerably more by using an entirely free service.

I would be interested to know information like the total number of paid subscriptions there are on average to the magazine like Bloodlines.

The light builders and supply stores seem to be footing most of the advertising load anymore.

Well lets think about this, what sold me on the last pups i bought? Was everytime i went to fb i was seeing video after video of these good looking pups treeing, and then other people sharing videos of there pups treeing coons in the wild. You can see and hear them. Big difference looking at add in book. I always wanted to win something big jist so i could make the cover of one of the magazines, just so everyone would have to look at my ugly mug, but the magazines going to be obsolete before i get my picture took!

We have ran Stud Dog ads. Put the pencil to it. It is not worth it. When Buzz was breeding Rat. Sure he could. The stud dogs are so broken up there is not enough money to be made to put them ads in the book. Face Book is a lot cheaper. Just like Walmart is cheaper than the old General Stores. That is what has happen to the whole world. The prohound is almost black and white. The cover pages is the only color ones. Its about 1/8th inch thick.
