Will be moving to the Camp Atterbury Indiana area soon. Does anyone on here raccoon hunt on Atterbury? Is it hard to find some land to lease or just get permission in that area?

I'd say it's a pretty hard area to get permission or a lease if you don't already know people. There are guys that hunt Atterbury a lot. I've been in there on casts a few times. Been to some pretty nice hunting and been to areas I literally crawled hundreds of yards to get to my dog! Stop by Ace coon club in Morgantown and you can find some that know it or can point you to some that know it pretty well.

James I hunted it when I was mobilized and worked there. I was probably one of the few who they let hunt at the time (Coonhunt). The biggest issue is the over 5000 acres of "Impact Area" that can have unexpoded ordinance on it. If your dogs get in there you will not be allowed to enter to get your dogs. You had better have pretty straight dogs if they get on one of there many deer or coyotes they will take them in there. You will have to go to Range Control, take a class and have a hunter safety card in order to hunt on camp plus check in and out with them. There was a lot of squirell hunters and rabbit hunters who used to hunt it quit a bit. And of course it still depends on what training is still being done there and what areas would be open or closed. I retired from there and worked closely with range control so at time I knew all the people who ran range control. Any questions feel free to call me. I live in Michigan now but still keep in contact with a few friends in the area down there.

There are more skunks at Camp Atterbury than any place I have ever seen in my entire life. I have had them walk up to me at night and start eating the chips out of my bag. Funny thing is I never seen anyone get sprayed. As far as coonhunting it, I went with a couple guys and we treed several there. But like Tony said you will need to get the class from range control.

Funniest thing I ever seen was we rented a Jon boat and were out on the river and some deer were crossing it. My buddy jumped on one and rode it across the rest of the river. When that deer got to the other side she kicked the crap out of him, actually broke his arm and put a gash across his forehead. Laughed so hard I couldn't breath. Needless to say he wont do that again.

Mike you are right about the skunks, I live trapped and relocated a bunch. Trapped 3 out from under my 1sgts office trailer. And for info to the guy that told me if u drowned them they won't spray, he can kiss my ***

That's not the most funny part, threw trap in back of truck went to Mcdonalds went thru drive thru and they had me pull ahead and wait for my order. When the young lady came to give me my order I could see her holding her nose while she handed me my food.
