I'd have 5 dog. Bluetick, English, and walker none of them I can call coonhounds. I got a 2 when I got out of the military hopefully to calm my nerves but all I was doing was wasteing time. All I wanted was to train a dog and call it him or her my hunting buddy and now my oldest boy wants to get involved and dont want to get him burnt out with no coons Any help will appreciate from breed to bloodline and training Thanks Smitty.

if it was me the 1st thing i would do is cull the 5 ya have, then get an older dog. somthing that you have hunted with that can tree a coon.

At this point breed shouldn't matter. Get your son an older dog that will run and tree his own coon.
