Line breeding

Is it line breeding or inbreeding if you breed grand father to grand daughter?

It would be inbreeding if it were mother to son, father daughter, direct siblings ( same sire & dam ) IMO anyway.

It's line breeding if it works.
Inbreeding if it doesn't.

X2 on making sure the line breeding is based

On a strong balanced dominant DNA reproducing dog. Then and only then Line breed.
I can only name about ,5 or 6 breeders in the country that's doing it right. Generation after Generation.

Go look at John Monroe's "Style" dog who's kin to the 3m drifter dog I introduced on this board a few years ago. They get more pups to the litter doing it right than most any stud dog owner.
Dennis McDowells Drifter dog and Mr. Poor Boy kennel himself. Randy Singleton. He just made a cross from a semen dog called Sid that's a grandson to old Spring Creek Radar. My all time favorite stud.
Hobo and Mike Shannon are a couple more that have done it right. They are hunting decendents of crosses they made years and generations ago.

Breeding better dogs shouldn’t be that hard...yet only a few produce great dogs on a consistent basis...

How do you know?

Mother to son, Father to daughter, Sister to Brother is inbreeding. UKC use to stamp the papers "INBRED" (Maybe they still do, I don't know). Couldn't miss it. It was a big stamp. Anything more distant related didn't get the stamp.

Here's the top side of a perfect line bred hound

https://flic.kr/p/23bvX1A

This John Monroe's stud Style.
You can thank Randy Singleton and Dennis McDowell for breeding these hounds for over 20-30 years.
This is how you do it.

I'll post the bottom side tomorrow.

If you ever wanted a model to study as a breeder, then study this one.
I'll be adding some of this to my line in the spring.

B&t, Take the human side and thinking out completely.
You are dealing with animals and trying to keep a family line and family traits, of a certain line. The only way to do it is close breeding.
People who don't breed dogs allot think it is weird, but in all dog breeds it is just a tool to get your line where you want it.
Every time you breed outside blood you are changing the results of what you are getting, if you don't like what you have, then outcross may be the tool that a person needs to use.
