I have a female pup that is 5 months old and is suddenly having some kind of ear problem. With the cold weather she has been spending more time in her box packed with fresh straw. I have an insulated E&M dog house with a flap over the door to keep the breeze out. I also have the small vent closed and I don't detect any excessive moisture, condensation, etc. The flap does not fit tight over the opening. I have fed her both Purina Pro Plan Sport 30/20 and more recently Valu-pak 28/20 grain free.

I noticed about a week ago that she started shaking her head extensively. Her ears seem to be pretty clean upon examination. I started her yesterday on Zymox otic to see if there would be any change. I had another female pup with very similar breeding that did the exact same thing. I tried switching her feed, Pruemers Earsolve solution, olive oil, zymox but never did fix it completely although the olive oil did seem to help some.

I have two other dogs kenneled beside her. They have the exact same set up with no problems whatsoever.

I suspect that she has some sensitivity to the straw but I figured some of you long timers may have some saige advice to help.

Change the straw to shavings and see if that helps.
