Indiana

What in the world is going on in the "coon zoo"? First the TOC last weekend and now look at the scores from B&T Days last night. Are the coons no longer there or is it the style of comp dogs we have today? What has happened to the 1,000 point scores? Now 25-200+ is a cast winner and 350+ is a first place.

It's in the breeding--

No not the hounds but the coon!! They have bred themselves to not leave any scent anymore AND they are wearing really fast tennis shoes that "today's" dogs can't keep up with. They are called-The No Smell get deep FAST type of raccoon. And I heard that they are now also working on an armor of fur that doesn't give off any heat and dark contacts.

Mr. Lambert, Rumor has it that due to some complaint by the Red Bone owners that no more high scores would be allowed. No longer counting score past 2 coons, and 1 coon is preferred on ALL scorecards. Blame it on the Red Bone owners crying discrimination , now that's according to a RUMOR, this might not be a FACT, but sounds about right. Lol. Dave

Indiana just doesn't have the coon it used to. Some areas have a good population but alot does not. Have everything a coon needs, food, water, and good cover but they have just disappeared in much of the state.

Your looking @ the wrong "breed days" results..... WALKER DAYS ( Rochester Ind.) had plenty of "coon zoo" scores.....😁

It looks like the coons finally came out to play at B&T Days last night. I wonder where they have been hiding?

Mr.Lambert, You did see that sorry Walkers score, even with the leaves on. Must have been a fluke, shucks even a red bone scored on a couple of coons, kitten coons must be out and about. Lol. Dave

Our coons are just fine up here in the northern part of the state.. Type of dog we are all hunting today should limit the big scores of Walker days past and that's a good thing.. I'm sure a number of them were legit, but I'm just as certain a number were not..

UKC needs to follow the leader here and stick to the path of cast wins vs high scores.. Creates a better atmosphere I think personally..

I cannot believe we have not had a major die off on coon populations yet.. We are possibly closing in on the mid 90's epic population numbers.. They died off a bit after that, but bounced back and have stayed strong since..

Weather, moon phase and trailing conditions will always dictate how many coons you tree.. Best dog in the world cant get them when they are not moving and will tree fewer when trailing conditions are bad.. Again my opinion and we know what that is worth..

Larry, Your opinion is HIGHLY regarded by everyone that knows you and that's a FACT. I would agree 100 percent with every thing you stated. Dave

Hard to score high when you have a dog or two in every cast keeping the strike open. You can’t move woods scores are dictated by the rules. You no longer drop in patch woods you recut and recut and not many have the woods big enough to do that in the state unless you’re down south.

I believe it’s how people train there dogs not to tree with other dogs. Every cast I was on dogs split up all over going 800 yard one way to a dog going 800 yards to another dog then going 800 yards to the next dogs won’t tree together. Before you know it 11/2 hour hunt is gone.I know everyone is talking about cast win I agree but I also believe cast win with plus points not just dogs getting out of sight staying out of trouble with less minus isn’t worthy of a cast win.just my opinion.
