Running Coons

I have begun to hunt a 10,000 acre ranch that I have not hunted in several years. The only reason that I did not hunt it for some time was that it was a little further from the house than other ranches that I was hunting.
In years past, I do not remember the coons running on the ranch like they are today. I have been starting most of them near a big water hole in the creek and every one of them has been going east after I get them jumped. The dogs have been trailing a half mile to a mile before jumping the coons and then another half mile to a mile before getting caught on the ground or treed. I have been listening to some really good races with 6 dogs on the ground.
I am not sure what is causing these coons to run but I am not complaining as it is good medicine for the younger dogs and great to get my older dogs back in shape.
I have been getting to the ranch at about 6:00 AM and hunting until 9:00-9:30 AM.
Adios,
Gary

That can happen as I have had Pearl open on a lion track in the Navajo Reservation that I know was at least 6 days old. The track was in moist sand as all of the snow was pretty much gone.
The races I am speaking of on the coons are after the coon is jumped. They might trail 20-30 minutes and a mile or so before jumping the coon which is fairly common if there is some moisture, low wind conditions and barometric pressure average to above.
Adios,
Gary
