If a dog didn't do it then just started it could be your feeding it too high protein feed especially when the weather is hot it will cause the dog to heat up and start chewing also check the dogs ears if they have a fungus or ear mites that can also cause them to chew I would try to fix it soon once they develop the habit it can be hard to stop.
