Full Moon Huntin

With last nights hunt still fresh in my mind and the memories of 30 years not far behind. ...does anybody have any scientific, or even half assed logical explanations as to why coon huntin sucks on moonlit nights.

Yes Ive treed lots of coon on full moon nights. Also have scored 1000+ on full moon nights....but that's the exception not the norm. I've only had a handful of good hunts on real bright nights in 30 years.

Dont know if its true but the old timers here say its because of the shadows casting down they bed up and feed after the moon goes down or before it gets dark i know dogs act crazy and deer move all night never bedding down on full moons

Why do so many women have their babies on a full moon night? Ask any ER Dr or nurse what happens on a full moon night. It isn't just coon hunting.

Past two nights were awful. 9 trees and could not find a coon. You didn't need a light to walk the moon was so bright. I've always thought you don't tree as many because coon feel safer moving on moon lit nights than staying put and they also come down quick and go back up and den to avoid predators. Gotta hit the woods at dusk or early morning. Just my 2 cents.

lay ups

Ive treed 6 the last 2 nites,5 were literally layups with little or no tracking,1 had a decent track but tough. My idea is coon don't get down and move near as much when its light out.

.

I have noticed several things over the years about full moon nights. The one that gets me the most is a lot of our coon tree in pine trees. I notice they will be right in the top and looking straight up. Almost think the are looking at the moon and it is hard to catch an eye.

I could never tell the full moon hurt the hunt any but I'm convinced it makes it a whole lot harder to get them to look.

Every time we go on a full moon, we sware we'll never do it again, but next month rolls around and there we are. One thing for sure, you never know what is gonna happen on a full moon.

Around me, when everything is green and plenty of leaf cover full moon nights are a little tougher to tree coon but can still get good tracks most places.

Once the leaves come off and all the green goes away some full moon nights it can be downright tough to get coon treed.

Have they normally been moving two hours before dark or just this week with the moon on ?

It sure was beautiful out tonight, especially when my young dog treed one up on a big ridge beside the lake.
