The World Hunt?????

I've read several post about the World Hunt, so I thought I would put my 2cents worth in. Hope I don't overdraw on my account!!!

No need to complain about where the hunt was held. I don't know how it is in other places, but the weather has a lot to do with when the coon feed and move down south!! It takes a real dog to tree a coon when they are not moving good!!! Can't complain about "High Scores" (in this case, low scores) when everyone is playing the same course!!!

My biggest question is not where, but WHEN! I don't understand why a hunt of this caliber, designed to determine the best, is not held when the leaves ARE GONE!!! That would eliminate circling empty trees!!! Wait until the leaves ARE GONE, babies are bigger, and the weather is colder, and then determine the world champion.

I know it's much easier said than done. It's like controlling the sound and temperature in church. Either gonna be too hot, or too cold; To loud or too low. It's impossible to please everyone.

I would like to congratulate every World Champion on a job well done!!!

Opinions are like noses and butts; err-body's got em!!!
I'm just thinking out loud!! I'm older, and that's what older people do!!!

The short answer to why it's held when it is held would be because of deer season. Thousands of acres get closed in every state, deer hunting runs the hunting world.

Agreed. Early December or January or February would be much better and wouldn't interfere with deer season much

That's so true, but here deer season is already open, and has been for a while. Bow season came in the 2nd Saturday of September. Deer season is over in most places on Jan. 1st. A few places go longer than that, but in those places, some phase of the season is already in.

weather is not always hunt-able up north in January and February. snow on ground and that is worse than the 90 degree heat to us southern boys, or at least this one.

I hear ya!!!! I am just thinking that a hunt of this caliber should be held when the leaves are gone. Who knows??? There may have been dogs that came away with the title, that would not have made the finals if you were able to take a good look at the tree. Might find an empty tree, or a tree with a monkey in it!!!! World Champion needs (imo) world champion conditions. Again, just thinking out loud. I try to be careful how often I give a "Piece of my Mind." I don't have ANY to spare!!!!

I'm looking at things from my little corner way down in Mayberry!! haha!!!! UKC sees the big picture!! Things like The Grand American, and the Winter Classic are wintertime events. In my way of thinking, the UKC title is the most coveted title in the world, and I would think a world championship hunt would be held at a time of year when dogs that lie............would be caught with their paw in the cookie jar!!!!

I would think there have been dogs that STRUCK OUT, but with the leaves on the trees, it was scored: "No Hits, No Runs, and NO ERRORS!" On a lighter note, (yet its the way I feel about it) I had rather for my dog to tree a possum, or house cat than to tree slick, and I don't want them treeing possums or house cats, but an EMPTY TREE....that's a bummer!!!

Leaves

Don't hold the World in Florida then it stays green year round here . Though cooler weather would be more enjoyable hunting . But don't forget the coons are just as likely to walk mid day and feed down here . As they have been here lately. I'm also really surprised UKC doesn't go off an almanac for hunts . Maybe they do ?! There are coon in Elberton but I'm sure something could be worked out to hunt some wmas / coon zoos or maybe not . Guess it would depend on how well everyone could come together . Deer hunters run the show no doubt about it . But a man once said come together lease the club's then make the deer guys follow your rules . May not be that easy but you'll never know till you try .

On a final note congrats to the x-bred world champion no matter the circumstances he still won .

As previously stated weather makes a big difference. I know the coons here have been moving a lot in the middle of the day. Then moving again about 2 am until just after daylight. Congrats to ol sambo he's a coon dog make no mistake about it.

Robert Johnson, The Yadkin River Dogs are a Southern type dog for sure. The Sackett Jr. and Tar Rattler, Blaster, to me are a little to hot nosed for the cold weather. JMO

Hello Chris. Been hiding out but get on the board about once a day to check out whats happening. If it's getting heated up I look more often. Got the coonhounds in Florida and the beagles here at the house. I think we should have the world hunt in Cana Va. and let everybody hunt the face of the blueridge mountains. Then we could water our crops from the tears these boys would cry.
Take care of yourself and come see me when you get a chance. I been doing a lot of crappie fishing at the watershed up at the stateline.

February in Kentucky is awesome. Very little chance of snow. Leaves gone. Tons of coon on the ground looking for food. Rut pretty much done. I am not a competition hunter but it really can be great here in February.
