Thank you Mr. Richard for the comments and compliments. It was a tough weekend for treeing coons. The heat and conditions obviously played a part and it didn't come easy for any hound. If the finals would have been on my home turf we probably wouldn't have seen the norm either, in terms of scores. Not when it was 90 degrees at home as well. Congrats to all the owners of those hounds who got it done!
Carder, consider this. Just before we parked the trucks, we had crossed a bridge that covered a creek. At least that's what we would call it where I come from. We parked the trucks and walked back to this creek and cut the dogs. They swung down through there a ways and got treed left-handed-ish. Two trees. After scoring those trees we cut them again and this is where they hit this water. You could hear the dogs splashing in it and I assumed it was that same creek we had cut them on the first turn loose. Heck, they weren't 50 - 75 yards in front of us. Now I know the guide said we would be hunting off of Lake Russell but I certainly could not see any openings that would suggest it opened up to this lake. I guess the dogs were simply working the overflow area of the lake that leaked into the woods. More of a swampy area I guess. So, forgive me for misrepresenting the body of water they were working! Lol. At the time, It thought it might be best to correct myself before it got me in trouble later on. Nonetheless, it was kinda funny and Krystal saw fit to throw me under the bus.
After walking 4.5 miles on that cast, they had me so turned around I lost all sense of direction other than right, left, in front of us or behind us. Haha.
