dominate crosses

What are some of the best crosses in the breed?

The few that stick out to me are the Hillbilly x Lady cross and Boomer x Ruby, and Rasin Cane x Jenny.
If you know how many pups were in these crosses vs how many ended up with titles that'd be great.

Uchtman's Rebel x Stower's Sadie Mae. Produced several Dual Grands and other titled dogs. This cross also produced several Studs dogs that reproduced well and can be found in many hounds of today.

Mad Dog Big Boy Blue X Hazel Hill Sassy

This cross will never be made again, both hounds are dead.

This crossed produced the coon dog of a lifetime type for me. Paul Vaughn owns a female that he likes (At A Girl). I had another littermate male from this cross that I Started and hunted hard for two months then gave him to a youth. He was running and treeing cosistantly when I gave him away. I believe he is a nitech. Another female that I know was never pushed hard enough to really see what kind of coon dog she is. From what I hear they all started easy, just put them in the woods and tree coon. My male here has showed that he produces like the above cross metioned.

I am always looking for the right female to cross. A female that was produced out of coon dog after coon dog after coon dog. Out of something that produces, not just by chance, but by whats behind it. Something someone can say was not just a crap shoot when the cross was made if they make coon dogs. I have some nice young hounds in the kennel that time will tell the whole story.

Smiley's Rambo II X Smiley's Heather

only a couple of crosses I can think of that compared to the number of TOP hounds produced in one litter

not just titled dogs, but some that were considered elite

The Spud and Jean cross would have to be mentioned as well.

Thats an interesting bit of imformation. I believe just as there is a reproducer's list, there should be a "top cross" list. What's sparked this question is I have a GrNtCh Boomer x GrNtCh Ruby female, Joleen, and I was thinking about breeding her to Jet V Again (Hillbilly x Lady). There are a few hounds in each of their respective pedigrees that tie one another together, such as, Tree Slammin Lady and Tucker's Boomer's mother, christian's blue gretchen, were littermates i believe. Joleen's Grandmother, Poison Ivy, was out of Hillbilly. Im sure there are others but those are the relations that stuck out to me first. With that being said, breeding a high percentage cross to another high percentage cross would be a correct train of thought, right? So if the cross were made with V again, or another stud from another high percentage cross, could you more or less expect most all the pups to "make it"? Im sure this has been tested before.

top crosses

Bayin'blues I agree with your process. I have always thought that stacking up high percentage crosses was more important than stacking up individual dogs. Here is a cross We just made that accomplishes this very well.

......................Grnitech B&D's Blue Spike
..............Grnitech Rhodes Southern Blue Nailor
......................Grnitech Twilight Blue Poison Ivy
..Nitech Creekside Whiteout
......................Grnitech Tucker's Blue Boomer
...............Nitech Rhodes Southern Blue Terra(3 wins)
......................Grnitech B&D's Blue Ruby

PUPS

............................NITECH Quinn Southern Blue Thunder
..............GRNITECH Tucker's Blue Boomer
.............................Christian's Blue Gretchen
...NITECH Creekside Insane Jane(1 win)
.............................CH GRNITECH B & D's Blue Spike
..............GRNITECH B & D's Blue Ruby
.............................GRNITECH Twilite Blue Poison Ivy

As you can see this cross stacks up the crosses of Boomer X Ruby and Spike X Ivy. Ivy was out of Hillbilly and doubled up on Hammer 18.

Jane

Yes We own Jane. Jane has been with us for a few years now and will probably die here on the creek. The cross with boomer was a nice cross. This is Jane's 3rd litter and we have high expectations for this cross as well.

Ps I have hunted with the Terra dog and she is nice. I have never got to hunt with joleen.

Bumping up an old thread

Bodacious x Salin Sadie

This cross has impacted the breed. Dogs showing up in the winners circle all over the country showing this cross somewhere in their pedigree. Coondogs
