Sorry I confused you. What I am trying to say. If there is something wrong with the charging circuit and you put it on the charger and leave it on. It will overheat and shorten the battery over all life. In other words, burn your battery up.
Since the auto circuit isn't working they you have to plug it in and unplug it to protect the battery. I think it was chew that said it but I would look close at both the contacts on the collar and the charging clip. Sometimes the clip has has issue also. I can't remember all these contact operations and too lazy right now to go get one but some of the have spring loaded contacts. Make sure they are all making contact.
