First, it didn't happen to me. It has happened in the past. I gave away about 2,000.00 in no good dogs in the past two years. I have (knowing better) bought dog's on the word of a friend, or one that was highly recommended. I either cull or give them away. I will not sell a worthless dog.
I have a good friend that bought a dog on MY recommendation, and paid 2,000 for a started dog. The first night he hunted him, the dog bit him and fought another dog. I know the dog that he fought, and he is an older Gr.Nt.Ch. with a great disposition. He called the guy the first night, and was told he had never seen it before. My mistake, which was a huge mistake, was in assuming the man would make it right. I was wrong. I brought the dog here, to work him for my friend, and took him back the next day. I didn't want him here one night. He was bad. I didn't do anything but unload him. My friend got ruff with him one day, when he really came after him while tied on the chain. He meant business. He ended up giving the dog away, telling him what he had seen, and the first night out, the dog bit him too. I was disappointed that NO EFFORT was made to make things right. Several guys came forward and have told similar horror stories about the same guys. I was really fooled b/c I thought these guys were ....well, different than that.
I can't understand anyone not wanting to make things right IF THE DOG DOES NOT PERFORM LIKE THE SELLER SAID IT WOULD.......and that means anyone. A dog is a dog, but another guy bought a dog, and the dog was supposed to be a broke dog. He has hunted it at least thirty times or more, and it has not showed him one coon. The dog has struck several tracks......no coon. He brought the dog here, and we hunted it, and it would not do anything. We even turned a coon loose in front of it and it did not tree the coon. It slick treed, while two pups went on to tree the coon.
The POINT I am making is, DON'T TRUST ANYONE, or take their word for it.......PERIOD!!!! Money makes people do things that might be totally out of character for them. If I sell a dog, and it does not perform for the buyer as it did for me.....I not only WILL take it back; I WANT TO TAKE IT back. I don't won't to buy a dog that will not perform for me, and I also WANT TO TREAT OTHERS the way I WANT TO BE TREATED!!!! I can't control what a dog does, but I can control what I do!!! If you don't feel that way.....that's you. THe safest way, and best way is to go hunting. I know it is hard to believe, at least it is for me b/c I have a tendency to trust everybody, but some people can lie with a straight face, and they have no conscience. They never look back, they will not be wrong, and they sleep like a baby each night, without giving it a second thought.
You may save a friendship, money, hard feelings, and a lot of time...............just go hunting with the dog!!!
